Noticed before I got banned that I was told off a couple times for disrespecting people in IC avenues and it never really made sense to me, since I've come back I've only just been told off for it today.

Here's a discussion I had regarding it:

My opinion is that as long as in-character chat remains in-character and doesn't bring up any out-of-character circumstances or situations, in regards to basic conduct rules it should be entirely unmoderated aside from discrimination. Excess unreasonable harassment would either reach into out-of-character realms or be covered under 2.5, but singular in-character comments or interactions, in my eyes, should never be moderated aside from discrimination because it sets a very dangerous precedent in terms of maintaining the separation between what is in-character and what isn't.

What are your thoughts on it?

Context is important. Someone going up to someone in game just to spout obscenities at them is clearly just being a cunt. If you have a reason to insult someone then its fair game as long as 1.2 is followed and it remains solely in character.

You didn't have to blur our my name btw lol.
I didn't make a report on you because there were no rules to enforce in this situation, but I wanted this to come from a staff member who you are friends with. My intention was merely to convey to the person making the report that we take all reports seriously, as he was obviously uncomfortable and upset, so I felt it would do no harm to let you know you made him uncomfortable and politely ask that you use more care in the future. This would only have been a request you could have chosen to ignore, but we wanted to make you aware about.

I often tell the reporter that I will speak to the other user whether rules were broken or not to make the reporter feel listened to and feel like the staff team takes their reports seriously.

Telling someone to kill themselves. Nope, sure as shit should be moderated. Whether you think it is in character or not. Never know what someone could be going through personally. I’m sure many people can take words, I definitely can. Fuck around and say it to the wrong person. Perpheads.com could possibly have a memorial page/post for the player we will soon forget about within 24 hours afterwards. Fuck what you see in your eyes. Don’t tell people to kill themselves joking or not. Honestly pathetic to even argue that this in anyway should be ok. The do’s and don’ts, that’s a don’t. You should of sat back, realized the mistake, and took the advice from the admin.

In all honestly if you're that mentally unstable, you should not be on Garry's Mod.

thought I'd rather give you the choice so it'd be better to blur your name out

ah, the way it looked to me was in the sense that it was more of a formal verbal warning - e.g a breach of rules - I think that was lost in translation along the way essentially and it's just been misinterpreted - good way of dealing with it tbf

I've heard of a couple of instances of IC stuff like this being brought into question, so thread still relevant considering stuff that happened to me and others in the past

They should seek help, definitely. But many don’t and do not realize it. You said it yourself, if you are mentally unstable, you. are. mentally. unstable. Not all recognize it.

Understandable, English is not my first language so it was probably me who phrased it in a shitty way tbh

what?

your attack on my character just isn't appreciated at all by the way lol, you can save that shit for yourself because I don't care for it

I'm not accepting a "mistake" to be my character telling someone else's character to kill themselves in brief passing as an expression of frustration in order to benefit my character in a situation - when it is explicitly allowed in the rules

by playing perp you are accepting there is a hard distinction between your character and its interactions and you as a real human and your interactions, and you are accepting everything that comes along with it as stated in the rules

as someone who has extensively - and at times publicly - struggled with my mental health and thoughts of the above, this feels like a trivialization and infantilization to the point of being downright disrespectful

If someone is an unsufferable cunt they deserve to be called out for it in ways I wouldn’t let my horse read. Racism is unnecessary and so is making fun of disabilities you are aware people have. In my opinion
If someone is disabled do not call them a retard

If someone is being retarded, call them retarded

Just no racism and don’t insult people for no reason, if you do have a reason pop off in the limits

I totally don’t have bottled up frustrations I put here

If someone is going through a rough time, then it is not the responsibility of this community to walk on eggshells to avoid ever having a conflict which may result in them having a bad experience from it, especially when we oftentimes have no way of knowing who is going through what, and to what extent. PERP is a game where you can have hours or even days worth of grinding stolen from you simply by making a couple bad decisions and falling victim to another player's cunning.

Now, certainly someone with mental issues may have a very bad mental reaction to being told to kill themselves. They just as well may have a horrible mental reaction to... having a shit ton of drugs seized by police or stolen by players, being scammed at a player casino, being banned for something, and the list goes on. Should we have staff get involved to prevent any bad experiences like these as well? After all, players being banned can be a huge source of mental anguish, I'm sure. You need only look at some of the childish and unhinged ways banned players end up getting their bans extended by freaking out and having a mental breakdown because they can't handle it. And to the extent banned players will go to get back on the server, making apology videos, songs, appeal after appeal after appeal, going on for years sometimes. You mean to tell me none of that can cause mental anguish?

We have rules against discrimination, repeated harassment, and excessive negativity, a rule so broad it can be applied to more situations I could think of, and these rules are enforced. Telling someone to kill themselves is toxic as shit, definitely, but so is half of the shit people do on perp on a regular basis, so I don't think there's much more that can be done to safeguard players, save for trying to turn PERP into a padded room where nobody can do or say a thing for fear of causing someone else anguish.

Ahhh good ole CSGO days. I’m black, so I get the N pass, can’t say it in the server I realized. As you can tell it’s name changes to talk to the team when you’re dead. Nice try tho bucko! That’s the game, to kill. The N word was used in a derogatory way.

N word isn’t a negative ACTION. Killing yourself is.
Racism is not an action? Better remove it from the rules, evidently it does not offend anyone and it totally has no impact on a person to be heavily insulted on the Color of their skin

Sometimes it’s better not to comment
