Paralake Executive

Description of the idea: Creation of the Executive of Paralake

Every three months there would be an election to elect 3 people who would have control over the laws for that period, they would have other responsibilities such as making decisions on legal disputes.

To avoid tyranny and laws no one wants there would be a brief constitution drawn up which could only be changed by referendum, this constitution would lay out the right of the people to bear arms, the requirement for an election every 3 months, and the general powers of the executive. This would make it much less prone to abuse through staff being able to enforce the constitution as well as the PLPD.

This idea would be similar to the idea of the council and I have some ideas on how to run this but I think where it previously failed was @TinySlayer ran out of time / lost interest in the council project so maybe we could build as we go, start off by not having a website and just having things run on the forums in the open. Have activity requirements for members of the executive so if they lose interest and just drop off the radar they can be easily replaced.

I am more than happy to make some draft documents and further develop this idea but I would like some more input from everyone. I hope you can see I have spent some time listening to your suggestions and really hope to get this idea off the ground.

Why should this be added? (pros): Having dedicated people to understand the laws and make decisions on problems that arise would be very beneficial especially as most law update suggestions haven’t been looked at for ages.

What negatives could this have? (cons):

@Samuel and @Inchs brought up the possibility of tyranny but I hope the constitution idea addresses this?

I’m going to write a little bit more about this later when I’m at my PC but for now I’d be grateful if you left me your thoughts on this as a barebones idea and maybe anything that could make it better

Pretty sure this was the idea of city council and it never worked out

Yeah that’s kinda what I’m thinking however at a smaller scale because I’m pretty sure council didn’t work out because it was a fairly large project for @TinySlayer who got too busy for it

I understand the council failed multiple times but I feel maybe if we started small like this with just one person and maybe a deputy this could be successful

Haha yes but there would have to be rules surrounding this position and that’s why I’ve suggested such a small term of office

This is the city council, which failed multiple times.
Lets not forget the time the one active council member tried to do crazy shit like banning all guns completely and could pass anything he wanted because he was the only council member? Lets not have that again

Interesting thanks for your input, I was unaware of this and that has definitely opened the need for some changes to my suggestion

The average player cannot be trusted to get dressed in the morning, let alone do something like this

@LilChicken These kind of laws will be passed when perp players are allowed to decide. THings like this was about to happen when we allowed a orange dude, a german socialist and a inactive person to run the laws :(

@Samuel interesting maybe something like a constantly running vote of no confidence could fix this? And if a certain amount of votes are reached elections open

I think some better draft documents would be a good idea to give us a better scope.

Maybe if laws were to be added or changed maybe it would need the input/vote of the Chief of PLPD? After all, it is part of his duty, and technically speaking, he is the head of the Executive Branch. Also, The Chief of the PLPD is a highly trustworthy position, only notable members of the community have held that role.

I've been preaching for a bigger and little bit more of a complex government. I wouldn't mind seeing this, and I wouldn't mind becoming a part of it either.

So basically a smaller version of the city council? Tried and failed.

Even if we accepted this, it would fail horribly. This is way too serious for the current state of perp.

I say, just let @TinySlayer handle all laws. As Quartermaster, former SA, former Deputy Chief of Department and not dumb like the people who would win these elections, he is qualified to do so. Additionally he is one of few with edit access to the document.

Would we really want to trust this task to @LilChicken or any other community member that acts like minges? I would personally rather keep the current laws over having some dumb person passing laws to just be funny.

I see what you're going for, I wholeheartedly agree with @Samuel. there is a problem when you have people who dabble in criminal acts in-game to decide on policy as they have a vested interest in what they're legislating.

The best method would be to leave it as it is, that or establish some organisation that would be in charge of reviewing laws periodically. But that would be the exact same as what @TinySlayer does now.
