Hello everyone,

Following the most recent admin meeting, the topic of scamming was discussed at length, revealing several different opinions on the matter.

After some deliberation, we have decided to collect your thoughts on the issue and would appreciate your input on the matter. For this reason, I have included a poll at the start of this thread for you to vote on which approach to scamming you find most appropriate. I will expand on the options we have shortlisted below:

Continue to allow scamming up to a certain amount
For this option, players would continue to be able to scam other players for anything other than rare items, premium or using mystery boxes, but would be limited to a certain monetary threshold (to be decided if implemented). This would include drug sales, gambling and so on.

Disallow scamming for any non-criminal transactions
This option would disallow scamming during gambling and other legal transactions. This option would not protect players from being scammed for drugs or other illegal transactions.

Continue to allow all scamming
For this option, players would continue to be able to scam other players for anything other than rare items, premium or using mystery boxes. This would include drug sales, gambling and so on.

In addition to these changes, I have amended two of our rules slightly during this transitional period following @Kevko's rule suggestion. Read about them below:

  • 2.5 Excessive Negativity
Players may not excessively impact the experience of others in a negative manner, unless the actions are a proportionate escalation of negative actions that have been performed against the original player.

Additionally, players have a 2 hour window to seek revenge on another player, provided they are unaware that the target has died and started a new life.

When participating in raids, players carrying visible weaponry whilst entering, exiting or inside of the property that is being raided are considered to be significant enough threats to be killed justifiably without prior verbal commands or interaction.

  • For example, it is not acceptable to:
  • Intentionally mug and target new players.
  • Destroy valuable items due to basic distaste such as product prices.
  • Killing a player over verbal insults, minor or accidental actions.
  • Killing a player after mugging them because they’ve seen your identity.
  • Cause unnecessary damage to a stolen vehicle without good reason.
  • Use explosives or incendiaries without taking precautions to ensure that uninvolved player's items are not damaged.
  • Use molotov cocktails in raids without prior negative interactions which would justify their use.
  • Scam or deceive other players to dishonestly acquire their rare/seasonal items.

  • 3.13 Selling Items
When selling items through the use of a cash register, using misleading item names is not allowed. Item names must accurately represent what is being sold, including containers and the contents within them. Using vague terms such as “Mystery Box” or similar is not acceptable. Additionally, items may only be put on-sale within properties that are owned by the player, or within properties where the player has direct permission to do so from the owner of the respective property.

As always, feel free to use this thread to discuss the recent changes and voice your thoughts on the poll.

I've never really seen a proper issue regarding in-character scamming as it is relatively easy to avoid getting scammed if you apply common sense and can tell something is too good to be true, etc.

And when it comes to large amounts of money being scammed. So for example, a casino owner refusing to pay out winnings or someone nicking money off of the table, there are aspects in-character that you can use, such as the Police (provided you can convince/prove the cops you were scammed) or by incorporating a "/me hands money to John Doe" to protect yourself from having money snatched.

The main crimes on the server:

1) Raiding (Properties, Bank and PD)
2) Drug trafficking (growing and selling)
3) Mugging
4) Car Theft / Chop Shop
5) Scamming

If scamming has limitations put on it or flat out has a whole part of scamming disabled, the limitations are terrible news because they limit the players' freedom and just feels like a Dark RP move. Seasoned players who main crim are already bored from doing the same 5 main crimes, the last thing we need is less things to do. Furthermore, Threatening staff punishment if a crim hits a lick on some pea brain that got scammed for a rare drop imo ruins roleplay and is far too forgiving for the gamemode.

Making it so you cant get scammed would be one of dumbest rules you could ever introduce. Its 1, extremely uncommon in my experience (i got scammed once because I thought the dude that scammed me was too stupid to scam me. On me)
2 its a video game, go get your revenge or go scam somebody else and get yourself back up.
The only people that would want this are probably bazaar dwellers

so scamming isnt allowed anymore?
No it is but people are voting to see if there should be a certain amount you can scam to or don’t change it at all

Read that it’s what collier said that’s what people are voting for

"mystery chests" scams was forbidden because they offer no rp benefit and someone just lazily put a empty chest (probably on a property they dont own/public) for quick cash grab with no risk/work

This does not apply to every other type scam and situation.

don't think I've ever scammed anyone but I feel like adding rules around that is a terrible idea unless its a new player only rule
if somebody scams an evidently new player for any significant amount of money (proportionate to them and their experience) on the basis that they are new and easy prey then i’d be looking to deal for 2.5

I think this is a great idea, scamming new players should be instantly counted towards targeting them for 2.5 and should be punished accordingly if they have a new player tag. Any money they were scammed out of could be returned or face punishment
