Leaving the game for any reason (except maybe some crashes) automatically stops recording your demo (and therefore saves it). That's all a restart does, just manually stops and restarts the recording.

This is not the issue, but it does shed light on what is causing the frame drop. It is most likely is your game loading in new vehicles, which, since about a month ago it does as you encounter them instead of loading everything as you join the server.

These ones are 100% an issue with your install of garry's mod. You are missing content that should be built into garry's mod. Can you go to steamapps/common/GarrysMod/sourceengine and confirm your folder looks like this.

I have pushed a hotfix which should fix this issue. Please restart your game to download it and let me know
