I think a decent compromise would be to only make recently confiscated items drop, say within 2 minutes.

The point is to record the part before the restart that caused this, so that you also have footage of the items you lost in addition to the bug. When you go to make a refund request after this bug is dealt with, you'll have evidence of owning the items beforehand.

Follow the guide, it will tell you where the demo is on your machine and how to view it. From there, join the server once to load the assets and then load the demo. You don't have to successfully join the server to load the assets. Edit: I linked the guide to demos in my first reply.
