hello l have a question about DDR 5 RAM. lm about to build my first computer on a budget. And the question is: is 2x8gb RAM enough for gaming, speed 5200mhz?(l will upgrade in the future, the only reason that l will take the 2x8 is due the budget). The build is on AM5: Ryzen 7 7800x3d, motherboard MSI MAG B650 tomahawk WIFI, RAM Kingston Fury Beast RGB EXPO 2x8GB DDR5 5200MHz, GPU probably Rx7800xt or rtx 4060.

16 GB of ram is the recommended default now so you will have no issue playing modern games. The games you might have issues however, are games with heavy memory impact. These games are usually ones made with the Unity engine, Unity games usually take extreme amounts of RAM and CPU usage. If you plan on playing any games such as Rust, Escape From Tarkov, Kerbal space program, ETC. Then 24GB - 32 GBs is the sweetspot. However, pretty much every other game should be fine. You can always google the game you play most and look at the recommended RAM specs for the game beforehand. Some might be outdated mind you like Rust's, but most new games will have up to date requirements.

One thing to mention is you can always add 2 more sticks of RAM later when you get the cash, so 16GBs is more than enough. With DDR5 make sure you set your EXPO settings in the BIOS to at least 6000MHz if you can, the 7800x3d runs best with RAM at this frequency. If you cannot get it to that speed use the highest available.

2x8 is fine still today, personally I'd go for 2x16 nowadays to be good in the long run but if you go 2x8 you can always add 2 more later (assuming you have 4 slots)
just fyi that startup times are usually very long with ddr5

startup times range anywhere from 30-60 seconds depending on your motherboard and BIOS version, mine is around 34

16GB is good at minimal, I wouldn't go any less than that these days. I'm also planning on upgrading soon as I'm currently using x2 8GB @ 3200 MHz DDR4 but I have never had an issue with any applications or games, I rarely even manage to use up all my memory unless I allocate so much RAM to Minecraft for example.

I'm on 2x16GB DDR5 and really can't complain about start-up times but would recommend you go for those 32GB if you can afford it at all just to be safe for the future, if not you can always upgrade as others have said. 7800x3d is also an amazing CPU and I absolutely love it.

2 x 8 GB (16GB) is fine, people go for 32GB nowadays just because its cheap enough.

Personally I would check your motherboard see what MHz it supports. (checked it supports over 6000MHz with OC)

Most people go for 5600MHz or 6000MHz. (personally I would get 6000MHz)

I just ordered something similar:
