Good day,

I'am looking to buy a Steam Deck to use it on the go because i travel much. Does anyone have experience with this and with playing Garrys mod and especially perpheads? Does this actually works? Of course you will need the docking station to for using mouse and keyboard.

Kind regards,
Rick Fielding

It works and its jank as hell. At max you might play with 15-30 FPS outdoors and somewhere around 60 when inside like Casino area.

You can customize the grip buttons in the back to open the inventory or other shortcuts you might need. Don't expect to win shootouts with this, even with gyro aim.

If you're using the dock then that's a different story as you can basically use keyboard and mouse input.

It works, I tried it for the first time yesterday. Controls will need to be customised to play native on the deck and at bazaar during peak hours you get no higher than 20 FPS. Just loading Perpheads on its own was troublesome and crashed a lot, so I used the latest version of Proton to prevent that.

It's a lot of fun to play on the Deck doing passive RP things, wouldn't recommend shooting or raiding with it. However I do remember Super getting two kills during a raid event and him overtaking me during a race event all the while he was yelling "steam deck", so maybe you can adapt to it.

After 173 days in a row of @Super_ messaging me to set up my steam deck for perp, we did it and it really wasn’t bad. I’m surprised at how well it ran compared to my expectations. 20-40 fps, can even use the microphone which just sounds hilarious. Its really good if you just wanna chill and walk around

Hello!

My experience with PERP on the Steam Deck has been really good after some tinkering. To get controls out of the way first our lord and saviour @Fredy generously created a Steam Deck layout for us. In order to access this layout, first switch your game to the x86-64 - Chromium + 64-bit binaries beta branch of the game. Once that's done, go to the Control Settings and browse Community Layouts and you will find Fredy's config:
ABAF9FF97C139D42A4B96C3107BB56B00832130D

D4B953E66224F90F1C8803C2BAFD288247371448

After this, I copied my autoexec config (The PERP Config @Creepis had up before he took it down a while ago) and popped it in there and I've found that the FPS is really good. When I load in at City Hall I get around 20-40 FPS and the same around the Bazaar Area. The highway I get a solid 50-60FPS and everywhere else is around 30FPS.

At the moment I'm trying to sort out my GMOD install as I believe my Chromium Branch has ended up getting corrupted from a Steam Deck/Proton update a while back (as the GMOD main menu does not load at all and I have to use console to connect to the server). But yeah the Steam Deck runs PERP surprisingly well. If you can get the hang of gyro controls too shooting isn't bad either (except when the FPS shits the bed then it's horrendous) but like @Jimmy Bovine said I managed to get 2 kills during a subs raid event with the double barrelled shotgun at 60FPS and I won a Highway Race.
