Right so @HolyShititsDannyD the massive r****d thinks that R plates are a good idea whereas I and a few other people disagree. What do you think?

In Northern Ireland, for one year after the passing of a car or motorcycle driving test, the driver is defined as a "restricted driver" who must not exceed 45 mph (72 km/h) and must display an "R-plate" consisting of an amber sans-serif R on a white background.

Personally I don't want a 17 year old that has just started driving going 60mph down a bendy country lane. Yes some are mature about driving, however there are many new drivers that are cocky and like to show off. Maybe 1 year is a bit long for this period, but it allows you to grow your confidence in driving, and then once you are comfortable you can begin to get used to the higher speeds. I think the R plates make the roads much safer for both other road users, and those who have just started.

id like to report rogue matiz tyres for calling me a retard

Overtaking on bendy country lanes is also not ideal.

Edit, if I wasn't originally clear:

Speed limit restrictions on a large proportion of drivers => significant increase in frequency of overtaking => increase in proportion of these overtakes which are impatient and dangerous => increase in rate of road incident.

what a retarded system smh, isn't the fucking entire driving test system supposed to let you get familiar with the road, learn to be confident and be a skilled driver before you do your exam? seems like a childish rule.

what we have here is you can have a moped at 16+ and you can already get your license at 17(you can do theoretical and lessons at 16.5 if irc) and drive with someone who has had their license for 5+ years and is aged 27+. you then just have a normal license when 18 without any restrictions. way better tbh

I'm just glad that we don't have any speed restriction when you pass your license here. You will be put into a probation for 2 years, fuck up hard while you're during your probation and you're screwed for being an edgy showoff (I don't know if other pleb countries have a similar system like in Germany but hey, Germania :pcmr: ).

You're supposed to get good amount of experience and know how to act on the road accordingly, a speed restriction is just retarded tbh. Chris supplied a clear point and it just brings more harm than any good (like driving on the left side wasnt bad enough anyways :kappa:).

In Wales, if you went to your local pound shop you'd find one of these:

These can be used by new drivers to show that you have only just passed your test. If you're not confortable driving at high speeds, don't accelerate as much. Theres no need for restrictions when you control what speed you drive. Going on the motorway would be a problem.

R plates sound pretty stupid, however on the topic of P plates...

Here's a nice piece of advice regarding the giant P plates.

I see P-plate cars quite a lot, and as Diagestive said "is to show other drivers that you've just passed your test" and are not compulsory.

Now here's the problem; P plate drivers are painfully annoying to be behind. Sure, at one point I was just like them when I was learning, however they take the fucking piss. By that, I mean I'll be driving down my favourite 50mph road blasting my high-octane, weight-balancing, tofu delivering, rev-matching, shifting eurobeat mix, and then after a few minutes I'd catch up to one of these complete wankers in their shitty Fiat or Corsa going about 25mph. The worse part is the road in question has a few bendy corners which make it extremely dangerous to overtake.

Everytime I overtake them, I always remind them of how fast they should be going by blasting the eurobeat to the maximum.

Remember kids;
Don't have one. P stands for PILLOCK.
