Don't know why, but recently steam overlay seems to be crashing any game I play, fine if I open it but when I close it my PC will black screen and I'm unable to do anything. Wondering if anyone knows anything about this

Steam now has an inbuilt FPS counter which shows a wide range of information, pretty useful actually. Go to Steam > Settings > Ingame and scroll about halfway down to enable it.
