Description of the idea: Make it so names for players aren't available to anyone who sees that player but rather if they get introduced or theres more ways to know about their name meaning if you met a player you have another list of power meaning you can let someone else know who that person is since you already met them. This means if you meet someone you have a list of people you met and you can let other people know who that person is without meeting them. Strangers are unknown by default. Also if you wear a mask you hide your identity fully except for people of your org/family/or people you allow.

Why should this be added? (pros): This reaches for more intense and immersive roleplaying experience eliminating the factor of knowing someone's name instantly without even meeting them. It makes roleplay more exciting not knowing who is who and memorizing them based off looks or relative information. Also giving an opening for criminals who are robbing such places to not be remembered by cops who will memorize their name and know who they are but if the criminals had masks that could all be avoided. With the exception of course the cop being able to take off the criminal's mask before they're down to reveal who it was.

What negatives could this have? (cons): This makes it harder for people to report someone but if we at least have an ID system like Fivem does or something else to individually identify them to report them or have some sort of logs to track them it shouldn't be a big con but something to definitely watch out for since you still want to identify rule breakers and minges.

I understand what you mean by this suggestion and it is indeed something I would like to see implemented.

However, Perp does not reach the same level of character customization as FiveM does for example, that is why I do not think that this system would work. At the end of the day if you remove everyone's names, people will just all look the same and it will be virtually impossible for PLPD to arrest warranted suspects or even recognize someone.

This is even worst if you think of someone that uses text based chat instead of a mic, because you wont even be able to listen to his voice to "confirm" your suspicions, meaning that if you want to get revenge for something that happened you will not be able because there's no way you can confirm it is the right person.

I have names removed and have no issues so far, saying that the PD would struggle to find people is silly as people shouldn't just read names and go it's you. I would even promote interactions and increase the use of /me's more as well. You can remove names from players and doors already. Monolith has a thing where you can introduce yourself to someone and then they can see who you are.

The sole reason you see names above peoples heads is because:
- People can look the same, you use the name to differentiate people as realistically they wouldn’t look identical and the name, despite not knowing it in character, acts as an indentifying factor.
- For the purpose of reports.

Ok, sure, but the truth is that it would be a lot harder and you only gave an argument against my first example, what about the second one?

I perfectly understand what you are trying to say but once again it would be overkill, Perp is a fast pace game, it would be fun to have those interactions sometimes but not all the time.

Plus if this was added the "John Doe" phenomenon would just explode, with everyone on the server looking exactly the same, the only reason that doesn't happen today is because of the names

I've played a server that forced you to share your name with someone before you knew who that person was, I found this increased the roleplay and charector interaction side of things, and additional thing they did on that server was allowed players to buy a mask and wear it to hide their name while doing illegal activities.

@Benj Other than voice chat I think pretty much everything is logged? I can't see it making a major negative impact on reports. Also always roleplay > reports

Source games assign an userid to players when they join the server, I don't know if they can use that.

those reset every restart right?

Santos had a number above people's heads when they were unknown to you so you could still report them and keep track of those players, without revealing the rp name.

I don’t know about you but I would consider this a plus unless I’m missing something. Means that people don’t just start remembering everyone’s numbers and at that point you may aswell have everyone’s names on their head.

im not sure if I’m right but this is just my thoughts

But for like reports and stuff people would have different numbers, I feel like it would be a bit annoying having to find the correct date and time and matching it up with the correct number, as multiple people could have the same number.

yeah I can completely see that actually. If it is introduced then it will need to make it best for both worlds

the numbers could align to your specific Steam ID so it’s traceable. It’s really easy to do this cause steam already has steam ids set up. If staff want to get a guy they just have to see the situation and track his id through logs based off the report or steam name in OOC.

Plus I see how everyone looking similar can be a inconvenience to the cops and people who are used to the unrealistic ability to know the name of ppl you never met but, not only is this better for roleplay for all of us, also that’s negated cause if you introduce or get introduced people can see your name unless you wear a mask.
