Why were you punished?: I was punished because I took a PD hostage while my friend was being arrested. I didn’t know what my friend’s charge was at the time. After he was released, we went to the subway station. When I got on the train, I threw a grenade and someone died. I believe this is why I was punished under rule 3.4, for not having a proper weapon or situation. However, from my understanding, that specific situation isn’t clearly stated in rule 3.4

Why should this appeal be considered?: You should consider that I don’t fully understand the rules sometimes. I do try to use the help chat, but a lot of the time it’s just other players responding, not actual staff, so the information isn’t always reliable.
I’ve learned from my bans and I wouldn’t repeat this again. Also, regarding the second reason for the ban, it’s not clearly stated in rule 3.4. Even when I asked, I was told it isn’t specifically written but still counts as a violation. From a player’s perspective, that’s difficult, because we don’t have access to the same information admins do. So I don’t see how I was supposed to know

Additional Information: “I’m not fully sure what you mean by evidence as this is my first time doing a ban appeal. I don’t usually record my gameplay, only short clips. I do have a clip of the admin banning me and me asking what rule I broke, but I was just told it was a rule break without much detail. Whilst we have decided to deny this dispute, because it falls under the rule, I will still explain as to why this was the case.

To start off with how the rules are written: Some rules may provide examples that are common, however they do not state every example, as that list would be rather long. Instead the definition of the rule provides the context of it "You must not take actions that put your life, safety or freedom from jail at serious risk without a good reason."

There is 3 reasons why that ban is valid and I'll break it down:

Firstly, attempting to break someone out of jail, when you are unsure what they are being charged with is a very common 3.4 violation, where majority of the time, because of the lack of investigation, you put yourself at serious risk without a good reason (Benefits < Risks). Whenever you do something risky you should be fully aware why and what you're doing it for and that you can fully confirm that the benefits will outweigh the risks.

Secondly, whilst using a grenade is allowed at this point in time to take someone hostage, you also need a fallback plan. That fallback plan should likely be in the shape of a gun or a friend with a gun, which/who can protect you once that grenade inevitably has to be disposed of.

Thirdly, whilst not forbidden at this point in time, throwing a grenade at officers, who may have not had much of a reason to shoot you, will do now. Instead you could've disposed of it much safely and likely have gotten out of there alive.
