Why were you punished?: Using "homophobia" (not even sure at this point felt more like admin was butthurt on behalf of his friend)
Why should this appeal be considered?: I'm appealing the recent ban I received for using the word "poof" in-game. I want to make it absolutely clear that in my culture, this word is not considered a slur, and it was not used in a hateful or derogatory way. It was said in a lighthearted context, with no malicious intent whatsoever — and in fact, my gay friend was present and took no offense.
I understand perp has a zero-tolerance policy on homophobia, which I fully support. However, applying that policy here was, in my view, a misjudgment. Banning me for a word that isn’t considered offensive in my culture — and was not used with the intent to offend — feels like an overreach. Language is nuanced, and context matters.
That said, I acknowledge that perp may have its own interpretation of acceptable language. If that’s the case, I’m willing to adapt and avoid using words that are fine locally but not globally. Which I actually stated to the staff member present that I would do so., but rather than hear any of what I had to say he just continued talking over me and saying "it is a slur" over and over. But I do believe the ban was unwarranted, given the circumstances and cultural context.
I ask that you please reconsider the ban, as I value the community and would like the chance to continue playing and contributing positively.
