If I recall this isn't a bug. The small metal detector was technically removed but if you had a small one, the model was replaced with the standard metal detector. You can't craft the "small" one anymore either

Why did it get removed? My guess is because in v6 its not needed anymore but its needed in the bunker top floor not sure if anywhere else needs it

This is correct. The small one is just left over from when we replaced the models a few years ago. We didn't want to remove the old one from everyone's inventories.
