Yo guys,
Here to share a story I found that shocked me and I hope does the same for you!
It was LeMans 1955, all was going well until disaster struck. Mercedes made a new car out of an alloy containing 25 percent magnesium.
Cars back then, weren't really engineered for safety whatsoever.
The car crashed into the side of the barrier and instantly flipped, killing over 15 people, the most greousome part of this however is how the bonnet (hood) flew off the car decapitating families with children.
60 people were initially killed due to these.
Anyway of course, the car ignited and if you didn't know, Magnesium is very reactive in Oxygen. The blaze started to burn people alive and the firefighters had little knowledge about Magnesium so began to spray it with Water, this of course catalysed it and killed the FireFighters and the Marshalls.
Some footage of the incident:
I know its greousome, but its all very interesting, and it shapes the world as we know it today.
More of these types of stories?
