So you've been sitting on your computer and have came up with a great suggestion or idea which you think would look great on the server? Excellent!, this community is always looking for new ideas, and we would love to hear yours!
First things first. Make sure you search to see that your suggestion hasn't already been made before.
Type in a key word from your idea and see whether or not someone has already beat you to it, or even if it's already been accepted/denied!
For this example, lets say you thought motorbikes would be a cool addition to the server. One quick search later would show that this idea has already been suggested and denied. Bad luck, but hey, maybe you've got more ideas?
If your suggestion has not already been made, then you should start by creating a new thread. You should begin by copying the template found here https://perpheads.com/threads/template.1241/
Now it's time to start filling it in. However, here are a few things you should ask yourself
- Is it possible? Let's not forget, this is a GMOD server. Some features such as planes are not really possible, due to the difficulty in implementing them.
- Is it realistic? This is a serious role play server. Try to think of real life examples in which your example is used. Does your local police force have laser cannons? No? Then I doubt they're going to add it to the server either.
- Is it fair? Whilst your suggestion may sound great to you and some friends. What do you think other members of the community may feel about it? Adding RPG's may sound great for criminal roleplayers, but what about those who play police? Always try and consider other viewpoints.
- Is it needed? We all like to play on a server that is as realistic as possible, but corners are going to have to be cut somewhere. Whilst we all want to see flourishing trees, nature by our feet and 100's of different radio stations, what real benefit would it have to the server?
Here are a few things you shouldn't do
- Use "it adds realism" as a reason as to why it should be added. This is probably the most common reason people try to justify why their idea should be accepted. It adds no real justification to your point. Pregnant women are realistic, doesn't mean it should be added. Don't use it.
- Use other servers as a reason as to why your idea should be accepted. Perpheads is a special and unique server. The map is made entirely from scratch to suit our needs. Just because a dark rp server has a certain car, doesn't really give much reason as to why we should have it to.
- Make it controversial. There are some things that are simply off limits. As previously stated, this is a Serious roleplay server. Introducing ISIS flags and allowing mutilation does no real benefit to anybody. Ask a few friends of member of staff if you think your idea may be taboo. It'll be better to get denied in a steam message than embarrass yourself in-front of the whole community!
Once you've followed these steps, you'll be sure to make a great suggestion. Make sure you add plenty of detail. If you're too vague, people would loose interest. Try and add an example of where your suggestion would be used/benefit a RP situation. Don't forget to take on board recommendations from members of the community, some may like it, some may hate it. The last thing you want is a flame war on your thread.
