Metagame and 2.6 perma bans are dumb

Metagame and 2.6 permanent bans have brought the downfall of a bunch of orgs and active players. It is safe to say that permanent bans for these rule breaks have in a sense killed the competitiveness of pvp. Many dedicated players have been removed from this community and in turn damaged the activity of pvp. I remember in V5 there was always something to raid or someone to mug/steal from because these losers would be on for hours 10 hours at a time. There is a current debate right now between roleplayers and pvp'ers stating that the map is the problem with lack of raids or any activity but I don't find that to be the issue. I think the main reason for low activity is that the people who were constantly doing stuff for hours at a time have been banned. In my own personal opinion, permanent bans for these rule breaks (long time player/POs or not) is a petty solution.

My next point is that metagame does not provide the crazy advantage that people think of. At the very best metagame can give off a last know location of players after death or give comms for bases and how many players are inside. Despite being provided this knowledge it does not guarantee that the recepient(s) are going to win the situation they are in. Think of it like the equivalent of a quick flash of ESP where anyone in the radius is made known, this is against the rules and kind of helpful but it is impractical because people naturally move around in a shootout unless it is a tfu sniper holding an angle. Perma banning people over metagame is a rash decision that staff hand out as a way to assert themselves as problem solvers.

What I mean by 2.6 is knowingly playing with alters and metagamers. Alting is very cheap and easy to do and perpheads has a major issue with people alting to play the server again. It is almost a weekly occurance where someone tries to alt, is successful, gets caught, and then comes back next week. Regardless of being in the know or not there is not much to gain playing with a metagamer/alter. Thorgal used to metagame a lot while in NASA and we also had 2016african as well as made's alt in the org but we still ended up losing a lot of raids (we just sucked ass).

From an administrative perspective the rules are set and must be followed which is why right now it is hard to defend people who break these rules. At the very least many people who have already been banned for metagaming and breaking 2.6 should have more leniency in their appeals and people who do these things in the future should not receive permanent bans. Had these bans not been dished out and kept at a regular unban date then maybe perpheads would not be so inactive despite reaching 128 players.

I completely agree that they're dumb, why metagame and fail to report a rule breaker?

The one thing I do hate, blackmailing players to snitch on their friends when they themselves haven’t broken the rules (yet) or when they’re offered softer bans to do it
How dare the admins interrogate players and offer them lower punishments in return for information.

How dare they investigate.

But also "why is staff not doing anything about xyz org and investigating them" at the same time. Rules for thee but not for me.

Especially when they target kids for this ( they are new players irl)
I have been through a situation where I was blackmailed and threatened to hand over weapons in game to avoid being banned but it turned out I didnt break any rules. And I was under immense pressure at the time so I eventually did and actually went through so much distress.

But doing that to any player especially players who are young should be ashamed of themselves

I remember a similar situation when Thorgal was being interrogated he was being told to snitch and that the people he was protecting didnt like him and would never be his friends outside the game. I think as a grown adult to say stuff like that to a child over a video game punishment is disgusting.

metagaming is so fun im not even gonna try sugar coat it, the best times ive ever had on perp with my friends, even since a new player, were messing about metagaming and i lowkey dont regret it at all despite being banned for a year from it. the friendships i built up with people through metagaming are some of the best online friendships ive ever had and contrary to what tilin said to thorgal about friends only being there to enjoy perp with you, although i sadly dont speak to many of them anymore, ive made life long friends through it that i dont see ever happening if i hadnt metagamed with them. obviously im not saying you cant become close friends without metagaming, you can still play games with them outta perp, but the fun of having a server and joining a vc with 4 others already in to play perp, the server you all met on, is unmatched. even when metagaming with legacy we never did it in a way that would ruin the experiences of others, we just used it to make our time more enjoyable.

i agree with metagaming bans but i feel like the length is less to do with the act of metagaming itself, but more as a reflection that they are willing to take winning that far, thus meaning they are too competitive for what perp is aiming for so admins make it way more serious than the act actually is to deter perp turning into an ultra sweaty pvp server.

i havent read any other posts in this thread so if i just rephrased what someone else said then suck ya jude bellingham

Stop, if I wanna break the rules I need to be allowed to. What are you talking about, I'm literally paying for Premium here, of course I should be allowed to do more than a normal player.

Tbh, as much dumb shit Thorgal did, if that's how he was interrogated all be it that let's be honest it's true most people here will not think twice about fucking you over cause it's just an online friendship lol. But if that's the way everything was phrased and said to a kid who's I believe 15? Is absolute fucked up.

We can all agree that thorgal was probably the most retarded kid on the server. But fuck he was also good at making people laugh and was deep down a good guy but that grown mans almost threaten a little boy to snitch on his online friends that he played with every day for almost 10 hours is not okay.

TL;DR: Thorgal calls me up a week later after the ban upset that he should've snitched because no one is talking to him anymore and they are downright assholes to him.
