Why were you banned/blacklisted?: OOC Conduct Regarding Pride Month
Why should this appeal be considered?: The other day I was on the server and in OOC a discussion started around pride month. I have always for some time been critical of this, not because of any animosity toward LGBTQ, but because I think that it has reached a point where it has become somewhat performative. I understand the people reading this will disagree with, and that is totally fair, but my point here is to demonstrate that at no point in this discussion was I being led by a hatred toward LGBTQ or anything of the like. My view concerning pride month was one which I actually developed in discussion with LGBTQ people.
I was very careful throughout this entire discussion to not make hostile comments directed toward individuals, because that was not at all my intent in the discussion. Also owing to the fact that the discussion had been going for a few minutes before I joined in without admins expressing any type of disapproval, I thought it was permissible for me to join in also. As soon as the Admins shut the discussion down I refrained from continuing on. Toward the end of the discussion, I made an analogy about how I would equally see it as performative if, say, there was a "Christian month" with "crosses everywhere". I myself being Christian, this is once again to show that my beliefs about the month have nothing to do with the individuals who it represents, but my critique is solely on the nature of the occasion. Someone replied to my statement about this by saying that the Bible does not condemn homosexuality, to which I, stated that my belief it does. Keep in mind, this isn't me randomly decided to say that LGBTQ is immoral, but simply an observation of what a text says in response to someone saying that the text says otherwise. This in my opinion falls under the category of literary discussion
I understand that my remarks may have came off as insulting or hateful, but I cannot stress enough that there was 0 intent of that in anything I said. I love everyone dearly and I harbor no prejudice on the grounds of sexual orientation, gender identity, or anything of the matter. When I formulated my beliefs on pride month it was actually out of a desire to protect LGBTQ, because I believed that this month would harm their image. Everyone is 100% free to disagree with me on this and I think these discussions are healthy, but I cannot stress enough that in anything I said there no intent of hatred or hostility, and I was honestly sort of upset by the people who straw-manned me throughout the discussion to make it seem as if I did harbor this. If there any individual remarks in particular which troubled the moderation or any other matters needing to be addressed please do take it up with me as I'd be very willing to explain myself. You can reach out to me on Discord at valuldemare or on steam.
To anyone reading this who was upset by my remarks, I apologize, I did not mean to offend you, I care for you and respect you, and I'm sorry that my statements made it seem otherwise. Thank you for reading.
Additional Information: I was unsure whether to select apology or dispute because I'm not sure if my ban was due to homophobia (which I address above) or over my belief concerning pride-month in of itself.
