Best Story Games?

Undertale, hands down. The writing is great, impeccable character design, from their dialogue to their mannerisms and character sprites, they're unique and memorable, the areas of the map are unique and it doesnt feel like you're just in the same place the whole game, and the story and narrative is really good and actually quite deep. Deltarune is quite good too but doesnt really scratch the same itch. Its obviously still a great game but i didnt enjoy it as much as when i first played Undertale.

Mass Effect Legendary edition. Mass Effect 3 has a weak ending (I didn't think it was too horrible personally), but the squad members in that trilogy are incredibly written. Garrus Vakarian is probably my favorite follower in any game iv ever played. Legion is a real one. Mass Effect 3 OG is sold separately and still has working multiplayer, I was just playing it yesterday lol. Its got a horde mode like Gears of War, and also one of the first games I remember with lootboxes!

Red Dead Redemption 1+2 (Id play the 1st one first even though the 2nd game is a prequel) Enough said already

Gears of War 1-3 Cole Train #1 perfect time to play the series as a new game based before gears 1 is being made. If you didn't get to experience these when they were coming out you missed out. Classic xbox experience. I haven't played through the series in years, but as a kid I really enjoyed the story and still remember the characters well

The Hitman series is fun, think they rebooted the stories with the new games but the old ones are really fun too.
If you like Hitman, try Sniper Elite and vice versa

Assassins Creed Ezios collection - Best AC games with the best character. A chad italian man

Shadow of War/Shadow of Mordor - The Nemesis system has the possibility to turn standard enemies into bosses with different status effects when dying to them, and stronger each time they defeat you making for each playthrough to be completely unique. Thankfully this was copyrighted by WB and the company recently got shut down so RIP to one of the best systems implemented in games

Metro 2033 series. Based in normal Russia a post apocalypse Russia. Has tremendous world building, and while not being a game that is doing jump scares (often) or anything really to 'scare' you, you are constantly on edge due to having a limited amount of ammo, health, the noises and music creating a perfect environment as you move slowly through the world.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Series is like Metro, as devs from S.T.A.L.K.E.R. made the metros series. This is more of the survival genre though

Titanfall 2 - Short campaign but really solid story, fantastic gameplay mechanics with a fun multiplayer. Sadly EA just cancelled Titanfall 3 and fired a bunch of devs

Dishonored series, great stealth game with a decent story and amazing gameplay

Hollow Knight, one of the best, maybe the best indie game you can play. Amazing story, incredible gameplay elements. Give it a try.

Bioshock series, old but gold, one of the best story games.

İf you didn't played rdr2, then you need to play rdr2, no need to talk anything more.

Katana zero, a great short indie game, a bit hard but great.
Dishonored is a great pick and one of my favorites.
To add on it, try Deathloop too. Good game with fun story and exploration.

God of War and Ragnarok, Kratos is just a fucking unit.

Mass Effect Legendary Edition. Really meaningful choices (do yourself a favour and install at least some ending changing mods for 3 like Audemus Happy Ending mod because otherwise it’s just underwhelming). Peak BioWare storytelling and companion writing.

Jedi Fallen Order and Jedi Survivor, really one of the only good Star Wars games from EA. Great exploration of the time between ROTS and ANH.

Assassins creed valhalla, even tho I had to run the game on lowest settings and it was bugged to shits for me I still enjoyed the story a lot. It's very similar to AC Odyssey in terms of being able to roam around doing your own thing & looting, levelling up and not being stuck to a story
I really tried to like Valhalla, but the combat is so horrible compared to the previous Assassin's Creed games, which for me was always what I loved about them.

My personal favorite game of all time still goes to Dishonored (all of them). The story is amazing and you pick your own style of gameplay with the powers that you choose.

Ghostrunner is also a nice game, where you'll keep trying to perfect the way you move through the story. It's also nice, because the story just kind of unravels mainly in the background as you play, not leaving you with all that many cutscenes.

Other honorable mentions: Batman (Arkham Asylum, Arkham City, Arkham Knight), Saints Row (best played with friends), Vampyr, Ghostwire.

Then there's the real story driven games: Sea of Solitude, Before Your Eyes (you need a camera for it), A Story About My Uncle

Valhalla, Odyssey and Origins alike all had a different combat system which was a nice change imo, if you wanted to play the old instead there's still bangers like AC IV/black flag, unity (to an extent) and basically all the other older AC games

Valhalla felt more like a open-world looting RPG, which I really liked since it was completely different compared to the other AC games I had already played & completed

Seen a lot of love and recommendations for Mass Effect 1-3 which I fully support, the second is one of my favourite games of all time and the whole series is definitely worth your time if you get invested in story and characters.

Bit of an older one, and you may have played already, but I really enjoyed the story for Sleeping Dogs alongside the gameplay.

If you're into Star Wars at all Knights of the old republic 1 and 2 are amazing, even if a little older and showing their age in terms of gameplay/graphics. Kotor2 is hands down of the best Star Wars stories to date.

Witcher 3 is another of my favourites but again not much of a hidden gem so likely you have played it, if not I'd definitely recommend it.

Alan Wake 1 and 2 are incredible as well if you're in to Survival/Psychological Horror.

Sauna Simulator 2000 (PS2)

At first glance, Sauna Simulator 2000 doesn’t look like a story game. There are no dialogue trees, no quests, no cutscenes. But that’s what makes it special. The story unfolds in the details the quiet cabin, the worn floorboards, the photo of someone you’ve clearly lost. It’s a game about memory, grief, and healing, told entirely through atmosphere.

You piece things together not by reading, but by feeling. Why is the cabin so isolated? Why does your character sigh when the steam hits? The silence says more than words ever could.

It’s a slow burn, but a powerful one. One of the most emotional and human stories I’ve experienced without a single line of spoken dialogue.

10/10 Game

Far Cry 3 - The scenery in this game considering is came out in 2012 is beautiful, theres 2 major islands for you to explore which you can explore by air, land or water. Your presence on the island makes you feel completely unwanted as almost everything is out to kill you, which adds to the engaging story about survival, insanity and violence. The game has amazing voice acting, theres options for stealth or loud depending on what you prefer and theres a crafting system which will help you along the way.

Sleeping Dogs - Sleeping dogs focuses on the gangs around Hong Kong, you play as an undercover cop trying to infiltrate the local triad. The story is very action packed and will never be boring or dull at any moment, this is mainly due to the characters of the game which will eventually grow on you. In my opinion the combat system (ableit a bit dated) is still a very fun part of the game, as you progress you can learn new fighting styles from Kung Fu to Muay Thai which you have to find statues and go to a school to learn them.

The Walking Dead - Bit of a different style of game compared to the two above, but this game is all about story meaning the choices you make have an impact on what happens in the future. The character building in this game is like no else, you grow attached to many of the characters and sometimes even despise some of them. The game has a good balance between cutscenes and gameplay keeping you hooked but also making sure you pay attention.

For honor has a great storyline, even despite the multiplayer part of the game being dogshit - can also play it coop, adds to the fun

Hitman games all goated, especially hitman WoA with how loud "sneak" attacks are with certain weapons
You must install audio mods tho the audio is dogshit on Valhalla

The Star Wars Jedi games are also pretty good but the map design is a bit ass, you can get stuck quite easily at puzzles if you lose attention for a second. It’s also canon with the Star Wars universe so makes it even more fun

Call of Duty World at War but on veteran because the story is great, veteran difficulty is a bitch with the grenade spam so it's a classic, it has co-op mode and accomplishment to complete, ending is great. I go through a yearly old CoD campaign run going through all the old modern warfare campaigns first (going to do MW Remastered and MW2 Remastered this time), I play it on hardened to keep the game fun and not repetitive if I get stuck on veteran sometimes and just want to playthrough.
