ok so my gmod takes fuckng ages to load up and years to join a sever.

Any way to speed things up?

Like Hayden said go to your workshop/addons on the main menu and just delete loads of crap from servers you don't play any more. For example if you used to play on a star wars server but don't any more then you can delete all their skins.models etc from your addons as they must all be loaded as soon as you start GMOD.

Remove all addons and defrag your PC.

every 15-30 addons (depending on specs) are like 1 second of loading extra. no addons= extremely fast loading.


NOTE:

Delete them all manualy. HOWEVER.
You need to unsub them all.

Pretty much this, also get rid of those shite workshop addons if you have any.

Buy a SSD, that the best improvement you could get.
