How to perform a realistic police interrogation

This guide will inform users on how to preform a realisitic police interrogation in a few easy steps:

Tips on interrogations:

• Control the situatuion calmly, in a professional manner ensuring that all suspects have a fair say.
• Keep notes of the situations and evaluate the notes at the end.
• Check the police database (warrant list) for infomations on the persons involved.
• If you are unsure on what todo in an interrogation contact a supervisor.

Conducting and interroagtions:
When conducting an interrogation suspects should be given a fair say in any situation, the amount of people in the room (including officers) should be kept to a minimum. Additionally, people should speak one at a time. Any verbal conflict should be kept to a minimum and if needed the suspects can be seperated.

Collecting infomation in an interrogation:
When conducting an interrogation the officer leading it should note down all important questions or data.

Understanding the rights of the suspects:
All suspects, or just anyone in an interrogation has the right to make no comment. Suspects cannot be forced or blackmailed into giving infomation the the police.

Something noteworthy;

The 'PEACE' approach is a common interviewing technique here in the UK. Below is the layout of how the interview should go

• Planning and Preparation (Should be worked out before the Interview is conducted)
• Engage and Explain
• Account, Clarification, and Challenge.
• Closure.
• Evaluation. (Done after the interview)

Key points to consider are as follows:

• The objectives (what is to be achieved and how. Remember the emphasis is on establishing the truth)
• Relevant law(s) (might want to consider intention, provocation and recklessness)
• Possible defences (eg, statuary defences, reasonable mistake, duress, self-defence)
• Possible mitigating and aggravating factors.

Oh also, remember, not everyone that is arrested HAS to be convicted, if there is a lack of evidence or a defence, they can be released with no further action.
