Main Idea: Have stop lights at the firestation to clear traffic for when a truck is leaving.
Full description of the idea: Have an easily-accessiable button within the Fire Department (or a trigger set on the the doors that only works one way) that, when pressed, sounds a bell within the fire department and changes the traffic lights (already present) on Shady Street and Gast Alley to red for about 10 seconds, before returning to flashing yellow. Additionally, add another traffic light on the other side of the road from the Shady Street side, as it sees the most traffic and parked cars at Slums could otherwise easily block the driver's view.
Why should it be added?: Those lights are currently not used at all, and ironically stand idly not doing the job that they're clearly there for. Having this system would be more realistic, provide that hefty immersion when you're watching a fire truck or ambulance race out, and reduce crashes and deaths from vehicles failing to yield.
Pros:
- Realistic, most fire stations in the UK (and likely the US as well) have lights stopping traffic when a fire truck is responding to an emergency call. With the fire station at a hotspot location for speeders, it makes obvious sense that there would be some sort of counteractive measure in place.
- Safer, reduces crashes from 100mph cars t-boning firetrucks which appear out of nowhere, or vice versa.
- An interesting feature, most maps do not have a feature similar, this would show the consideration towards EMS/FD.
Cons:
- Possibility for abuse, but considering it does no harm and could easily have a 60 second cooldown, it's less of an issue.
