Discussion Post: https://perpheads.com/threads/new-mayor-election-system.17695/
Main Idea: Implementing a new system that addresses the lack of people running for mayor by decreasing the requirement for an election to start to just 2 people.
Full description of the idea: The current mayoral election system requires 5 people all to sign up and run for mayor for a vote to take place. I believe this system is flawed for a few reasons. Mayor can be a complex and boring job meaning the majority of people will not want to sign up for it. This results in a lack of elections being held, which means there are less chances to buy items/vehicles at 0 tax or to get a job at max slots. This also occurs late at night when there are rarely ever 5 people running for mayor.
I propose a new system which will increase the chances of a mayor being elected by reducing the requirements from 5 candidates to just 2. This system will work like this, upon the previous mayor, resigning(or dying), you can sign up for mayor. Once 2 people run for mayor, a 15 minute timer starts. This 15 minute timer is to give other people a chance to run for mayor, up to a maximum of 5 people running. The voting process will start when one of the two conditions are met:
At least 2 people have signed up for the election and the 15 minute countdown has reached zero.
OR
5 people sign up in which case the election starts straight away, as it does now.
Why should it be added?: So that there will not be long periods of waiting for 3 other candidates to sign up when there are two people who have already signed up and are willing to be mayor but can't as the election requires 5 people to start most of the time.
Pros: More likely for there to be a mayor in office.
More chances to buy items/vehicles on reduced tax.
More chances to get jobs with a mayor increasing the slots.
Less likely for criminals to run amok during the late hours with more slots for police+EMS.
Cons: People who like to rob the bank when there's no mayor and there are only 6 cops and 1 SWAT might get mad.
