Hello,

Recently I've noticed my computer using a lot of memory and I cannot find the issue to it and wondering if anyone out there could potentially help me resolve this.

When I first got my PC maybe a year and half ago it was running smoothly, was able to open and run games, but now I cant even open a game without my PC becoming incredible slow and taking a long time to load games and becomes very jittery when it eventually does load. I've looked my task manager and with only discord open and nothing else 75% of memory is taken up. Steam, 1 tab of google chrome, discord and steam running it sits on 85%.

I've done everything possible to try and resolve the issue such as...
-Check for malware.
-Virus check.
-Turned off programs upon startup in task manager.
-Defragged
-Ran diagnosis check for memory problems.
-All drivers are up to date.

when ever I launch a game also closes down all my tabs I have open such as Google and Discord.

I have 8GB of ram and was thinking about upgrading to 16 (I will probably do this soon anyway) but was working fine previously.

If anyone has any ideas that would be great, thank you!

Yeah I assumed it would be, but what was just confusing me, I never had the issue before and now it's starting to play up.
Things will naturally just use more and more memory as time goes on like how we used to live in a world where 8GB was recommended, then the minimal and now in 2025, it’s just not enough memory with some software using more memory as time goes on with updates, assuming you use Windows 11 too that’s probably only going to use further more memory on top of everything else

Reinstalling is always an option but probably not feasible to you

Upgrade to 16GB, 8GB is not feasible in this day and even now we are moving towards 32GB just for gaming.

Sort this tab in task manager by highest and see what's taking up everything and close them.
