Suggestion Title: Reduce the sentence for assault
Suggestion Description: Reduce the sentence for assault because 5 years 5k for punching someone once is absurd and cringe

Why should this be added?:
Assault, while a violent crime, has a wide variety of different severities. Punching someone once is not grounds for such a gratuitous sentence, and a lot less severe than something such as sexual assault, which has a lower max ticket and the same hitting (this is just an example.)

I believe that assault should be reduced to like 2.5k 3 years, while reckless endangerment be increase to 5k 5 years. Then, anyone who inflicts a serious injury (knocking another player out,) can be charged at the same level as a typical assault, while hitting someone once doesn't lead to a terminally online cop dragging you to PD and giving you the maximum sentence.

What negatives could this have?:
- PD cant be as harsh anymore :(

What problem would this suggestion solve?: It's very annoying to punch someone once as a joke and have a police officer intervene and take you straight to jail. Attatched image is me when I get a max ticket for hitting someone once or twice.

You don’t have to be given 5 years 5K for it, that is the maximum sentence. Peaceful policies also states that all punishments should be justified and proportionate to the crime committed.

hate to tell you but no one ever follows this and I've recieved multiple 5k tickets for a very minor assault, hence the concept of almost creating another tier of law to cover minor assaults so officers are further discouraged from doing this.

I think people are misunderstanding the suggestion's purpose. The suggestion is that getting 5 years in prison (and/or a 5k ticket) should not even be an option for very minor assault. The peaceful policies policy does exist, but it is not nearly strong enough to actually compel anyone to reduce sentences in the interest of being reasonable and not cringe. It is also not strong enough to actually be enforced this way either.

I actually like this suggestion personally. If not in this form, there should absolutely be some mechanism that prevents overly harsh sentences for crimes wherein only minor damages occurred.

I can speak for myself that I have been given 5k tickets for minor assaults, but as an officer I dont do the same. It really just depends on the officer and if you feel it was disproportionate or unreasonable you'd just have to make an IA.

To me the only issue with this is that I will probably never ticket someone 5y5k right away if he punched someone. But with 9.1 it almost never ends on punching somoene once. The suspect will get a ticket, be let go and do the same thing on and on, and if I see him punching someone once for the 4th time, giving me, an officer a headace and minging about, ill go straight for the 5y5k charge as the dude definately needs a little break.

Maybe revamp the law so certain charges have harsher punishments for recidivism? It is realistic as it already works like that for speeding tickets in some countries and other stuff too.

Relevant:

If I give someone 5yr5k for assault, it's because they're a minge and they deserve it, or they were given an opportunity to stop, and continued anyway. Just need better policies to discourage max sentences for the tiniest reason.

Adding some tier level of assault is ideal in the way forward for patching this, splitting it into 3 tiers with differentiating punishments depending on law:
- Petty assault, Class C assault: Defined as “Inflicting superficial injuries such as minor bruises or otherwise inflicting pain without lasting injury. Misdemeanour charge, of up to 2 years in prison and 4K fine.” (Examples: Pushing, punching once or twice)
- Common assault, Class B assault: Defined as “Causing injury resulting in actual bodily harm, such as major bruising, bleeding, cuts, scratches, flesh wounds and other injuries unlikely to be fatal or life changing.” Felony liable of up to 4 years in prison and 4K fine.
- Serious Assault / Aggravated Assault / Grevious bodily harm / Class A assault: Defined as “Causing life threatening or life changing injury without use of a weapon, such as Knocking someone unconscious, Causing serious injuries that require medical aid, breaking bones (including teeth), damaging organs or otherwise causing disfigurement or dismemberment. Felony liable of up to 5 years in prison and 5K fine”.

It’s just expecting perpheads cops to consistently determine the level of assault here is a shot in the dark.

2k years 2k fine for the first tier, the main point of this thread is to stop officers giving exorbitant tickets i can't lie. I'd honestly go 2/2k, 4/3.5k, 5/5k.

Tho my concept is that petty assault is classified as anything that uses fists, while reckless endangerment / tier 2 comes into play when you knock someone out

I will be giving you max on assault now for making this thread

(For legal reasons this is a joke)

My version, which would basically replace 9.1, 9.2 and 9.3 (and is very similar to UK law so superior in every way):

9.1 Common Assault and Battery - An unlawful act of intentionally or recklessly causing another person to fear immediate harm or causing minor physical contact that is unwarranted and non-consensual. This includes physical acts such as pushing, shoving, or striking without any injury.

9.1.1 Common Assault and Battery on Emergency Workers - An unlawful act of intentionally or recklessly causing any member of the emergency services, to fear immediate harm or causing minor physical contact that is unwarranted and non-consensual while they are performing their duties. This includes physical acts such as pushing, shoving, or striking without causing injury.

Examples:
  1. Threatening someone with physical harm.
  2. Shooting near somebody
  3. Pushing, shoving or any similar action causing no injury.
For the purposes of simplicity, we shall keep this to non-injuries, even though in real life an offender might get charged for battery with a minor injury. If the offence is committed against an emergency worker, double the max sentence.

9.2 Assault occasioning Actual Bodily Harm - An unlawful assault that results in actual physical harm, such as bleeding, or other non-permanent injuries that require some level of medical attention.

Examples:
  1. Punching someone, which causes them to bleed.
Not really sure what other examples.

9.3 Assault occasioning Grevious Bodily Harm - An unlawful assault causing serious physical harm, such as broken bones, significant blood loss, or life-threatening injuries. This category includes assaults with weapons as defined in law 7.3 or other objects that have the ability to cause severe harm.

Examples:
  1. Assaulting someone with a weapon.
  2. Stabbing or any action causing life-threatening injuries.
  3. Knocking someone unconscious
  4. Shooting someone with a firearm
This is basically 9.2.

Some issues with this way is players being able to distinguish between levels of assault (mainly ABH and GBH), but we could always re-word it to make it clear in the context of roleplay. I have re-worded bits to make it more clear-cut. Or maybe this is just overly complicated for PERP and I just wasted 10 minutes on this.

very nice but for balance reasons i would move knocking someone out to 9.2
