Friends, Soldiers. Today 11/11 is Veterans Day. A day not like every other day but one where we who have served and are still serving are brought closer together. A day where we think, feel and remember... Bad jokes, smells, things we have seen, among other things. It is a day where recognition is given for our missions, and sacrifices that we have made. Some gave more than others. This day I like to remember the once not often spoken about, the ones who gave everything for the missions and for their brothers and sisters out in the mad world protecting the nation we have sworn an oath to protect, its citizens, the nations interest and its democracy.
Leaving us too early, too quickly and most often without warning. All risks we know when we put on our uniforms and put on our headwear and load our weapons yet so hard to think about until we stand there and what we know could happen has happened. We wear our uniform with pride. Pride knowing that if we die it will be for a mission securing what we have sworn an oath to protect and that maybe, just maybe the brother or sister next to me may go home safe and sound to the family standing at home waiting for their return.
I would like to mention some of the names of people who have died for something bigger than themselves…
SGT. Wallin, Kenneth 2010-10-16 Afghanistan
CPT. Palmlöv, Johan 2010-02-07 Afghanistan
LT. Andersson Gunnar 2010-02-07 Afghanistan
LT. Bergqvist, Tomas 2005-12-09 Afghanistan
LT. Lindblom, Jesper 2005-11-25 Afghanistan
And so many more but I have chosen these specifically because they have fallen in combat. Suppressing enemy fire and in the end giving the ultimate sacrifice. In the military, we say that you are not male, female, or non-binary. Nor are you black, white, Latino or Asian you are a soldier and once something like this happens it is like losing a sibling. We walk, talk, shower and develop together just like a family and once someone leaves us we will never forget them.
Stay safe Friends, civilians, soldiers and family members of servicemen.// SGT. TG, EE6
