Punishment Type: Warning
Appeal Type: Dispute[Evidence]
Which staff member issued the punishment?: @Leikotha
How long were you banned/blacklisted for?: Not Applicable

Your Steam Name: satsum0
Your Roleplay Name: Tyson Hunt
Your SteamID: STEAM_0:1:510052388

Why were you punished?: 3.4 - Stole a vehicle in front of the owner.

Why should this appeal be considered?: I was planning to do some crimes with the camel man. We were at storage without a car so I decided to steal one there. As I'm stealing it a new player hops in and drives away under gunpoint, resulting in me killing him. Later on I get a report made on me telling me I broke the rules, which I was confident I didn't.

I'm not sure if there has been a rule change about this, but for as long as I remember there was never a rule about "stealing cars infront of owners". There was also an AR made about a similar situation that I remember (https://perpheads.com/threads/action-request-76561199180425984-white-monster.75589/) and again, I'm not aware of any rule changes since then.

Also the reason falling under 3.4 is strange because I asked about it and the staff member said that the owner can pull a gun on you and shoot you or identify you to the cops. But like, I'm armed and any bystander could "identify me to the pd"...

It just doesn't make sense, if stealing cars is 3.4 then raiding is 3.4 too because both involve breaking into others' property.

Stealing a car in front of its owner has been established to be against 3.4, as it grants them the ability to kill you with no regard to your own safety. I understand your point about raiding a property, but vehicle theft does not net you any tangible reward. Raiding a property has a worthwile reward on the line, whereas car theft just grants you a joyride.

Additionally, while you do raise the point of the driver leaving at gunpoint, ultimately you also had no reason to gunpoint this individual. You were placing them at gunpoint for attempting to non-violently prevent you from stealing their car. In doing so, you committed murder in one of the most public areas of the map turning at worst a 3 year sentence for attempted vehicle theft into a 10 year murder charge. This was not a reasonable escalation, as the other player had reason to outright kill you, and chose not to even harm you at all.

For the reasons stated above, your warning will be amended to include 2.5 for this escalation, and will state:

2.5, 3.4 - Stole a vehicle in front of the owner at storage, then shot the owner and wrecked their car when they tried to drive away to prevent their car from being stolen.
