Best Story Games?

old school runescape
Get yourself an emulator. Obviously the game looks like shit but it has probably one of the best stories i've ever played, and you get to be a cool BRITISH firearms officer.
Half-Life 1/2 *Alyx too if you have a VR Headset (You can play Black Mesa instead of HL1, it's a very well made remake)
Red Dead Redemption 1/2 - Rockstar Games made them, amazing stories.
Mafia I Definitive Edition and Mafia II (Leave Mafia III alone, it is not that good)
Detroit: Become Human - Absolute Cinema
Grand Theft Auto V - Masterpiece
Far Cry 3/4/5 - Amazing villains
Uncharted 4
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - Hey you, you're finally awake.
Red Dead Redemption 1/2 - Rockstar Games made them, amazing stories.

To The Moon is an unsually good RPGM game, OneShot is very pretty and basically like undertale.
Pacific Drive is great, as is Firewatch. Both good story games.
I really enjoyed Shadows Over Loathing, but I'm not sure it'd be your kind of game.
Fallout: New Vegas is one of the goats for story games.
The Stanley Parable is a classic.
SIGNALIS is honestly one of the best survival horror games out there.
Inscryption is really cool and has a really awesome story.
Above all, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is fantastic

I cant believe no one has said about Baldur's Gate 3 here. Its probably one of the best story games to come out in recent years, has an immense amount of hours of good quality gameplay. The only caveat for it is that its turn based which I something that some people don't really like.
Also, as @rat has said in their own thread, the new Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 game is fire. I've linked their thread for it as they sum up why pretty well.
Other than those two, I've been having lots of fun on the Oblivion Remaster after its release a little while ago. You could also sink your teeth into some of the Skyrim Wabbajack modpacks, one I would recommend is Lorerim (linked below) because it adds a good ton of shit to the game, it is a bit of a lengthy download tho.

Story wise:
Halo: Reach- one of the best stories of the franchise, despite the game and story of halo from the very beginning telling you the fate you face.
Space Marine 2: man this flew under my radar for half a year. Its rare I buy a game at full price outside a Nintendo game.
Legend of Zelda: Breath of the wild AND Skyward sword. 2 of the finest games Nintendo have ever made. Emulator works well here.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is probably the game with the best writing in the past 10 years for people who haven't played DnD slop like Baldur's Gate 3
It has an extremely slow burn though, my first playthrough I didn't even finish because I got burnt out. It was well worth replaying though. One of the best games I've ever played in terms of writing
