As I currently understand it, a portion of the main Perp players find the server to be dying. Lately, many of these players have been deciding to get themselves a perm ban. Lhealey05, a former moderator, received a perm ban for MRDM. Which later became a CWB. Not only Lhealey05 though. I checked the ban list today. I saw 4 recognisable names, names of recurring Perp players. Now, I do not know them all too well, they might have left for other reasons. However, I feel like this is part of the current 'Perp is bad'/'Perp is dying' hype.
I know that people have been saying this for a long while. It's part of the whole GMod is old/S&box discussion. But I feel like the group of people discussing that in Perp, was a small percentage of the main players. To me, it seems like that percentage is rising. In OOC, in voice chat, on the forums, all I hear is people complaining about some kind of Perp Death. But I do not agree. Hearing these statements can change the way you think about Perp. The moment you start saying it aswell, you will start believing in it. Yes, you may think that Perp is dying, but I feel many people radicalise the actual situation. Perp still reaches 128 players every day. Bazaar is still buzzing. All that is really happening, is that you are growing up. Your friends too. Long time players will eventually leave.
There was a big influx of players in 2016. It is now 2026, 10 years later. After 10 years, you are bound to get kind of sick of it. Even after new updates, new events, new friends, etc. I have noticed that in the last 2 months, there has been a peak in new players sticking around. Essentially taking up the spaces of older Perp players, the ones who chose to leave. Like you and your friends, Perp is changing too. A new admin team and new PD Command. That things are changing, does not mean things are getting worse.
Yes, ofcourse Perp would benefit from updates. People love updates! But remember, Perp is not a real game. It does not have this entire team behind it. It has a small group of Devs, each with their own lives. Updates cannot be churned out and they're not always good for everyone.
I am sorry if my story might be shittily formulated, but I hope you get the gist. I wanted to address some problems that people have been complaining about one by one (new players and no updates). I am ofcourse not an authority. But I feel like people misunderstand their own views.
Let me know what you guys think though. It is a discussion after all.
TL;DR
Yes, Gmod is old. Yes, people are leaving Perp. No, Perp is not dying. People grow up, people change. You, your friends, Perp too. Do not be dramatic. Do not unfairly call Perp dying. That's life, it's changing, that's all it is.
