Punishment Type: Ban
Punishment Subtype: Server Ban
Appeal Type: Apology
Which staff member issued the punishment?: @Vollgas
How long were you banned/blacklisted for?: 1 Year

Your Steam Name: Alopecia Lisa
Your Roleplay Name: Riley Fox
Your SteamID: STEAM_0:0:163871598

Why were you punished?: 1.2, 4.1 - As SS, the user repeatedly harassed and insulted another player over their gender and sexual orientation, also using a slur, despite being told to stop in LOOC.

Why should this appeal be considered?: Firstly, I should point out that this ban was originally for a week. However, after now checking again today, it appears to have been extended to 1 year - and I'd like to know why.

I've been banned because I allegedly "harassed and insulted another player over their gender and sexual orientation". This is absolutely false, as I did not harass anyone. If anything, this other player and her friend were the ones harassing me - if I have to dig through the demos to prove this, then I can.

I was an SS agent protecting the mayor, who at the time had gone AFK. We were in the back room of his bazaar shop, along with another SS agent and the player who reported me. There were flashbangs going off outside along with multiple gunshots, so as part of my role I asked the player to leave the room for the Mayor's safety. She refused, stating that she is his friend and he knows her. I said that's fine, but I don't know you and his safety is my responsibility, so until I can verify that I'd like you to leave. Again, she refused. Therefore, as part of the roleplay, I cuffed her and said we can wait until the mayor has returned and then we can verify that.

She had a big issue with this and started calling for a police supervisor, even though we did uncuff her as she was kicking up a fuss. Her friend then turned up and blocked the exit, meaning that despite me trying to leave the situation multiple times, I couldn't. Her and her friend kept me trapped in the room for a good 30 minutes, preventing me from leaving (which I would argue is harassment).

When a supervisor did turn up, he agreed that cuffing her was reasonable and did not warrant a demotion from the role. Of course, this is not the answer that she was after, so she took it upon herself to keep pushing the situation further. I attempted to leave the area, at which point her and her friend continued to follow/harass me. She called myself and the other SS agent 'retards' and 'imbeciles'. It was only after this that I used any insults myself.

In short, I object to the idea that I harassed this other player. Rather, it's clear from the recordings that she was harassing me:

1. Her and her friend blocked me in and would not let me leave the area
2. Once I was able to leave, she and her friend continued to follow me
3. I was obligated to be there as my job was to protect the mayor. However, if she felt she was being harassed, there was nothing preventing her from leaving the area.

How can I be harassing her if I am trying to extract myself from the situation, but she and her friend are continuously blocking me in and then subsequently following me? If anything, that constitutes harassment on her part.

As for the slur aspect of the ban, I'm happy to admit that and take full responsibility for it. However, I'd like to point out that she was using multiple insults first, such as those I've already mentioned ('imbeciles', 'retards'). And, as far as I'm aware, she has not been punished for these.

I've been banned for my reaction to these insults after being fed up after an hour of being insulted and provoked, which would test anyone's patience. I'd like to apologise for whatever it is I said that seems to have offended her. However, I'm not sure exactly what that is, as the ban only mentions a "slur" and not precisely what was said. I do recall asking her if she was a member of the LGBTQ community (as she had the LGBTQ flag on her character's clothes). However, I don't see how this constitutes a 'slur'.

Regardless, if I've said anything that has offended, then I do apologise. In line with this, I accepted the punishment of a 1 week ban, but decided to appeal since it now appears to have been extended to a year. This is clearly disproportionate, and if I'm to be punished for the situation then I can accept that. However, I do feel this other player should be punished too for her involvement, namely blocking me in, harassing me and throwing insults around first.

She engineered this situation just to provoke a response, so that she could report me for said reaction. Unfortunately it has worked, and she seemed quite confident at the time that it would. Therefore, I wouldn't be surprised if she's done this to several other players in the past, having them banned too.

In short, I'd like to make several points:

1. I did not harass her, she harassed me
2. The ban was originally for 1 week, but has disproportionately been extended to a year, which is a 5100% increase
3. If I have said anything to offend, then I apologise as this was not my intention. I lost my temper after being mistreated by the other player for over an hour

If I were to be unbanned, then I have learned that in future, I should avoid any mention of anything that could be considered controversial (such as the LGBTQ community). At the time, I didn't think it would be a rule break seeing as it was in character and her character had the LGBTQ flag on her person. Why choose to wear that as a statement if it's not allowed to be discussed or talked about?

Either way, if you're willing to accept this apology, then moving forward I know not to risk it; so I'd keep my head down and avoid making any references to anything that could be considered even remotely offensive.

Thank you for your consideration.
