Being a suicidal mayor allowed?

A few days ago I was mayor, I made the city communist and put all the taxes up, after numerous death threats in advert and phone calls I made my character commit suicide in the gas chamber. After this event was over I got teleported away and was told that it was against the rules to do so. I explained that after all these threats and the amount of stress my character was going through was enough for him to top himself. What I'm asking is should this be against the rules and if so clearly state it against the rules, or should this be allowed after all this server is a serious RP server.

From a RP point of view this should be allowed. Its like suicide from bullying. (not a good thing) If the mayor gets so many threats and feels under pressure, RP would be to commit suicide. However from the rules POV you aren't allowed to assist yourself in death. In other words you must try your hardest not to die.
