It's not going to die, there will always be a loyal playerbase, the way you make it out is as if the game is just going to lose its players entirely (it's not)Thank you for linking a graph that shows exactly our point. Garry's Mod has been slowly dying for a long time now.

If you look at the graph in the "all time" configuration, yes, it is SLOWLY dying. Big emphasis on slowly here.![]()
Garry's Mod - Steam Charts
An ongoing analysis of Steam's player numbers, seeing what's been played the most.steamcharts.com
People are still saying that gmod is dying?
I think the graph is showing it’s not dying yet. Player base has decreased but within the last year the “average player” line has started going up same with the “players” line. The player base size has stayed roughly the same for 7 years by what the graph is saying. How does that mean it’s dying?Thank you for linking a graph that shows exactly our point. Garry's Mod has been slowly dying for a long time now.

Did you see the state of PERP in around 2019~ time? You'd think there is no coming back, sustainability holds within your hands.I did specify slowly. But a 10k drop in average player count over the past 5 years is not nothing when we are looking at long term sustainability for the server and community. And a loyal playerbase is not enough to keep that up. Perpheads thrives because of our high flow of new players. At no point did I say it would lose its playerbase entirely. I said that at some point it may become unsustainable for perpheads.

It is easy for this server to retain and have returning players come back to it, the developer team simply just needs to focus on more content packed updates and continued persistence in resolving issues as we come across them, whilst it is understood that takes time, PERPHEADS has a very loyal community and new players will become legacy/returning players like some of the old heads here. This is a massive privilege to have as a community alone.
Garry's Mod will always have players, maybe not as many newcomers but the game isn't going to get to such a state to where you see empty servers left right centre.

When I say "easy", it is a clear path, the execution is the challenging part."easy"
I feel like you misunderstand the whole point of what I was saying but it is what it is.
Taking steps to make sure our community can outlive the game it was created on is not being overdramatic, it is being prepared. Here are some facts. When I say "easy", it is a clear path, the execution is the challenging part.
I'm not misunderstanding what you're saying, I just think your point is rather overdramatic.

Garry's Mod's playercount has been on a downward trend (even if slowly)
The playerbase for Garry's Mod is much more concentrated than it used to be (the server landscape is dominated by a fewer number of more popular servers)
This is a negative trend for the game - that is a fact. It is a very slow one, and there is no immediate threat, but that doesn't mean it isn't something we should be looking at. The landscape for RP is very diverse right now, and the likes of FiveM and whatever happens with roleplay for GTA VI will almost certainly draw more new players looking for the classic RP experience away from Garry's Mod and towards that.
It isn't dramatic to be looking ahead when a task like moving perp to sbox would already take years of development. A loyal returning playerbase is not enough to sustain the server on its own, and it doesn't matter how many incredible updates we do if new players aren't getting into Garry's Mod anymore. That is just a fact. And again, to make it very clear, this is not a threat right now. But Steam data, and our own internal data show that in the long run, it is something we should keep an eye on to make sure this commuity can continue to exist long into the future.
