What law do you wish to Edit/Add: So I would want this fixed

12.7 Emergency Vehicles

Upon the approach of an emergency vehicle with its lights or sirens activated drivers must pull to the rightmost side of the road to allow the vehicle to pass.If the vehicle remains behind them they must come to a stop at the nearest safe location.

and change the word OR in between: ...lights or sirens... to

AND so it would be ... lights and sirens...

Upon the approach of an emergency vehicle with its lights and sirens activated drivers must pull to the rightmost side of the road to allow the vehicle to pass. If the vehicle remains behind them they must come to a stop at the nearest safe location.

Why should this change/addition be made: Because:
  • That wording means either one by itself is enough.
  • So, according to that specific text, if the emergency vehicle has just its siren on but no lights, drivers must still yield and pull over.
Which it is stupid because people cant know if your car is involved in emergency and responding to call, when the car doesnt have its lights on, it should be both lights and sirens on to be considered emergency vehicle responding and to require people to pull over

What is the aim of this change/addition:
To clarify the definition of law 12.7 Emergency Vehicles

I disagree, it should be kept how it already is, if an emergency vehicle has their lights or sirens on then they are clearly going somewhere in an emergency, it shouldn't require both of them

So you realise people dont know that car is responding when it dont have its lights on? how they are supposed to know to pull over, when they have their sirens on?:D

This is not meant to be a snarky (rude) response! In real life the correct procedure when hearing a siren coming from behind is to orientate yourself in the rearview mirrors, then if the vehicle that produces the siren does not pass you but instead tails behind you can be more or less 100% sure it is you they are making the sound for.

It is not uncommon IRL for emergency vehicles to run with lights ONLY when there is not immeditate need to alert someone who isn't aware of their presense (especially at night when they don't want to make unnecesary noise and there isn't heavy traffic). You should still always make way for them regardless.

US maybe different but I don't know of any European country that requires BOTH sirens and lights to mean give way.

It is fair to run with lights only and I dont contest that, I contest the fact for currect rules you are allowed to respond with just sirens without any lights and you are expected to yeld to for the emergency vehicle, I havent seen anywhere in IRL that is the case that if police use their sirens or horn you must yeld in traffic there is always requirement to use Lights, and in my country (europe) emergency vehicles must use both lights and sirens for traffic to be yelding. I am okay with the suggestion getting denied but dont be suprised when I respond to calls as firefighter or EMS I will use just sirens

There are many situations in which it would be either unnecessary or cause tactical problems when being required to use both lights and sirens at all times, think a burglary in progress where you wouldn't necessarily want to alert the perpetrators to your presence.

Germany being the only country for which I know the law requires both lights and sirens to make it a "lawful order" for others to make way for the approaching vehicle, however it is still good practice and taught during driving lessons to make way regardless.

For me personally this is a prime example of when I personally don't use the siren during IRL responses: It's incredibly loud, even inside the ambulance/fire truck (in my case), causes distress to all kinds of animals and children and if there's nobody around it doesn't benefit you in any way.

Pretty easy solution: Hear a siren? Pull over to the right hand side of the road while not blocking any intersection. In 99% of cases nobody will approach from inside a building or the forest that lies to the right side of the road.

I think this makes perfectly good sense and needs to be changed. As it is right now, if you dont see the lights on a cop car behind you, you will get a 2.000 dollar fine
