ECPD GUIDE: HOW TO REPORT CRIMES EFFECTIVELY

The ECPD need to have citizen to report crimes to them as we cannot be everywhere at once and as much as we wish we could be we cannot always be watching over you everywhere you are. You don't need to feel distressed by this however as scary as it may be because the ECPD are only a simple cell phone call away. This guide is in place to help to inform citizens on how to effectively contact us, the different ways you can do it and what you will need to tell us so that we can effectively deal with the situation.

Section One: How To Contact Us.

There are many different ways to contact an officer of the law when you are in need of assistance. Here are a few.

APPROACH A PATROLLING OFFICER

At the ECPD we try to have as many of our officer out on patrol instead of staying in the station so you should be able to find an officer near you. Don't be shy, all of our officers are very friendly and always happy to help, we make sure of that! Just wave to flag down one of our cars or come up to one of our beat cops and tell him about your situation. He will radio it in for you and make sure that you are safe, remember: Your safety and your fellow citizens safety is our top priority.

REPORT TO A POLICE STATION

Simply report to your nearest police station, we almost always have an officer working the desk, just tell them about the situation and they will help you out. Remember though, you won't always be close to a station. Emergency shouldn't be reported this way unless you are really close to a station try to only report minor crimes that don't have anyone in immediate danger. You can also show up to turn in illegal items or hand in lost property!

CALL 911 VIA A TEXT (AKA /911)

Simply send a text of the situation to 911 and our officers on the beat will receive it on their PDAs and our car officer will get it on their laptops. This is good for quick fire reports to us when you don't have much time to send a report or call us fully. Just make sure that you include all the information we need that will be detailed later.

SEND US AN EMERGENCY REPORT VIA OUR 911 APP

To send an emergency report you will be able to send a report that already has some of our important questions added so it can be sent more effectively to our officers. This works much like our text with it going to our PDAs and laptops.

CALL 911 VIA OUR 911 APP

This is probably the best way to contact us. Calling 911 will connect you to our current lieutenant on duty who will then radio it to the service needed. It is the best because you can talk to a real human and he can ask you question as alot of people do forget what you need to say when their under distress. Make sure you try to use this the most.

SECTION 2: WHAT YOU NEED TO TELL US

Some of the things you need to tell us in your basic call to 911 is:

  • Your Location
  • What Is Happening
  • How Many People Are Involved
  • Are They Armed And If So Heavily Or Lightly
  • Are You In Danger Or Are You Safe
  • Addition Information You Believe To Be Important

This is for a general situation like a shooting, a home invasion or another crime like that but for a crime like a car being stolen you would need to give more details like the color and make of the car.

Most of the time if you just take a few seconds before you call us and make sure you know what to say you should be able to effectively contact us and get a correct response from us.

REMEMBER: THE ECPD ARE ALWAYS HERE FOR YOU WHEN YOU NEED US.
