PLPD People's Union.
Need Representation?
Who are we?
The PLPD People's Union (PPU) is a non-profit union organisation that represents members of the PLPD (and other Government organisations) who are members or not of the union. We are not officially endorsed, funded, recognised or supported by the PLPD at this current moment of time. PPU provides help and support when problems arise at work and negotiate for all grades of staff in the PLPD, Fire Department, EMS, Courier, Taxi, Secret Service and Roadcrew. This is represented in our organisation logo displaying the three main public services of Paralake respectively, blue for Police, pink for EMS and orange for Fire service.
If you are a member, or not, you have access to professional advice about your rights and will be supported by our highly trained Union reps and officials.
Our goal one day is to be fully integrated as a respected but separate entity into the PLPD to enable to help represent members of Government organisations currently facing any form of administrative actions being taken upon themselves, whether it be through Internal Affairs or administrative actions.
We want you to feel secure and valued in your job and have a say in your pay and conditions, as well as administrative actions that may be alleged against you.
Why were we set up?
I have been discharged a few times from the PLPD over the years it has been established, and it has came to my attention that I was unable to represent myself, or have a suitable defence when I recently was discharged under the circumstances that would appear to be unfair. This situation was in full-view of the Chief of Department, and refused to assist with any form of representation whatsoever in my defence.
As a result of this, we feel as if those facing administrative action through IA investigations or other means are not represented properly without a valid defence. We want to act to ensure that members of these organisations have a strong and effective representation, PPU wants to protect people at work and help resolve issues before they become major problems. PPU ensures that these members are aware of their rights in the workplace.
Who can join PPU?
Anyone can join the PPU, on the basis that they are a concurrent or recently discharged member of the PLPD or any other Government funded organisation seeking to either support or seek advice from the PPU.
Good reasons to join.
Advice and Support
PPU workplace reps advise and support you at work and are backed up by highly trained officials. Specialising in defence against yourself within Internal Affairs cases or administrative action, we will represent you to give you a leg to stand on.
Your voice
PPU gives you a strong voice at work. Without a union, you are less likely to have a say in your terms and conditions and how your employer operates.
Safer workplace
PPU takes safety at work seriously, and will maintain that this goal is achieved with union members.
