I bought an orangepi 3b with m.2 slot and host files.tymon007.xyz using xbackbone.
i can surely say its convenient and fun, but i do have to say that its not 2 clicks easy and i do have years of IT experience. You can definately do that though if you follow some instructions guide. I buy my domains on porkbun.com as they have dirt cheap xyz domains and .com are affordable too there.

Just buy a bunch of old HP EliteDesks, install Proxmox and spin up VMs like there is no tomorrow.
Runs a Plex server, trunks my landline number, monitors my pager's frequency, controls most of my home lighting, a DNS server for network-wide adblocking and runs a whole lot of random websites (all limited to node 2 which has some extra security pre-cautions.)

The 5 of them on a pile are upgraded to 16GBs of memory (DDR3) and have a Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4570S CPU @ 2.90GHz for a processor.
If you want to be able to handle larger workloads (like I do for my Plex server), I run that on the ProDesk which has a Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6500 CPU @ 3.20GHz processor.
There's a lot of different variants out there, so I recommend checking up the specs in the eBay (or local alternative) listings.
Jellyseerr is the best part for me. My friend lets me use his, but it has completely changed my life in terms of quick & accessible entertainment. If my friend ever shuts it down I will definitely be replicating it. For my images I pay like 45 or so a year for a website, have it linked to CloudFlare, and then use my friends github setup to self host alongside ShareX. Love all of it

I found a lot of 3 with no WLAN card for ~120$ USD on eBay, really good deal but I'm afraid I would need WLAN considering my access points don't have enough ethernet ports
