Punishment Type: Ban
Punishment Subtype: Server Ban
Appeal Type: Dispute[Evidence]
Which staff member issued the punishment?: @thehomelessdude
How long were you banned/blacklisted for?: 1 Week
Your Steam Name: The White Glove Society
Your Roleplay Name: Borris Bones
Your SteamID: STEAM_0:0:463830675
Why were you punished?: 3.4 - As a police officer the player intentionally ignored a hostage situation to rush in and kill the hostage takers
Why should this appeal be considered?: So I would like to make a few points here as to why I believe this ban is false.
The first and most obvious flaw with this ban is that it is simply incorrect. The ban reason says I "rush in and kill the hostage takers," when there were no "hostage takers," as there was only one hostage taker. The ban reason flat-out lies about the situation to exaggerate to make it look like I broke 3.4. Another thing to note here is that I knew there was one hostage taker, as the radio communication referred to the hostage taker as "he," which implies it's one dude, which is why I was confident in acting the way I did, knowing I wouldn't be outnumbered.
Secondly, I straight up don't believe this is 3.4 for the following reasons:
I didn't shoot straight away, and you can see me peek around the corner in the video just to double-check it was one dude.
I had my gun drawn; therefore, I am not under gunpoint, as we both had our weapons drawn
I was not outnumbered, as it was one dude
The hostage taker had his gun pointed at the other officer (the hostage), not me, so how on earth am I putting my life at risk? You could argue I was putting the other officer's life at risk, sure, but that is not a rule break and is an IA situation. 3.4 specifically says, "You must not take actions that put your life, safety, or freedom from jail at serious risk without a good reason." I mean the rule is literally called "Putting YOUR Life at Risk," not putting another's life at risk.
Now I would like to state how I think this situation was handled incorrectly by the banning staff member. This isn't something I did and then logged off; I was on the server for around 20 minutes after this situation, according to my recording, and when I disconnected, I had no active F6. This means I believe this should have been an AR where I could state my reasoning and have a fair chance to explain myself, or that the admin should have at least reached out to me before banning me.
Additional context:
There were no high-ranking officers to lead the situation, just around 5 or 6 pistol cops. I don't even think there was a senior officer, and there was no TFU. I was also arresting a person at the time, and not a single other officer responded to the situation while I was doing this, which left me to deal with it.
You can tell the hostage taker never aimed at me because he shot the other officer, not me, which shows he didn't even have his gun pointed at me at any point and clearly indicates that MY life was never at risk.
This is 100 percent an IA issue and not a reason to ban someone. This is also the second time I have been banned for a policy violation in about a month, which is not bannable and is, in fact, the whole reason IAs exist.
As a last thing I would like to add is that I don't even think the dude who took the hostage had any reason to take a hostage, as I am almost certain there was no one in the cells who had a large sentence when he took the hostage, so I think the entire situation itself was fail RP to begin with.
Thank you for reading.
