Unnecessarily toxic reception. I uninstalled tiktok years ago and I never used Temu, SHEIN, alibaba, etc… How can this community preach mental health and be so soft then twist around then act like this unprovoked?
You make a fair point about the toxic reception to your thread and for that i do apologise. The sarcastic tone in my earlier reply does have some thruth to it though. A lot of people share videos, threads and news posts about chinese hacker z and russian network cable y. It's come to a point where every gathering or social event has 'That topic' or 'That guy' always talking about 'That topic'. It's really annoying to be confronted with bullshit like this on a daily matter when the sole goal of some nations, organisations, etc. is to strike fear in people. I can't really blame you for falling for that but this thread shows you're falling for that.
The Dutch police was 'hacked' a few weeks ago. Allegedly, they hacked Outlook profile cards showing some information about which department someone worked at, full name and employee number. Every news outlet was on it and everyone was outraged by it. Which is fucking hilarious, because most people have all that information on their Instagram, public LinkedIn. Ever checked your Google Maps Timeline? Those motherfuckers know by the minute when i'm taking a shit all the while my google speakers are listening to the intensitiy of my farts. The chinese know when my smart lightbulb i named 'bedroom' turns off so they probably know when i go to bed as well. It's also on my Wi-Fi so xi-ji-ping can backdoor me whenever he wants. He probably won't though, unless i were the prime minister of the Netherlands
Cyber attacks sound incredibly scary because they are always made up to be catastrophic and out of your personal control.
China's economy is currently fucked. They had almost double digit percentages of growth which is now stagnating. China can pretty much hack the entire west without repercussions because we keep buying (and we depend on them) from them. Yet the west still beats China in knowledge and expertise. That is why they want to gather as much information from other countries as possible. This is ofcourse not in the interest of your or my government, so they'll send a spokespearson to (insert news outlet here) to install some fear into citizens so your or my government will remain powerful (and so we don't have to learn Chinese).
Because american news oulets are extremely predatory and privately owned it is in their best interest to make you click on their article. Are you going to click on an article with the title: "Chinese government finds unprotected dropbox account from Lockheed Martin employee" or: "CHINESE HACKERS POSE LARGE THREAT TO US MILITARY"? I'm sure nobody outside of cyber security is interested in that first title...
Seriously i could go on and on about how 'ThE mEdiA' fucks with your mind. I don't want to sound like a conspiracy theorist in that regard, i just think that it's a consequence of hypercapitalist private news organisations.(No, i'm not a commie). Instead i'll leave you with this video from Deadspin.
I do apologise again if you felt like you weren't being taken serious. I hope i don't come of as arrogant in this reply, as that is not my intention. I'm just a bit fed up with being bombarded with bullshit every day.
edit:
I also recommend this video about China's economy.
