PassiveRP - Discussion

I would love to see more, but there seems to be so little people interested, I have tried multiple times to form small events and roleplay situations (businesses etc.), but not once did anyone even join in, I asked a few people personally, but it would seem that they are too occupied with growing.

As many players know, I tried to do an TV channel for paralake. But there are big problems, no one wants to be a news caster, camera man or actor. Everyone think they get more money with growing. It becomes more and more possible, that I give up with it...

It isn't the fact that anyone isn't interested it is because like many people have said, there isn't a proper advantage to it if you're not finding it funny or earning money from it.

I agree with Stomper though. CriminalRP isn't being carried out properly without people breaking rules. Both PassiveRP and CriminalRP are being ruined at the moment and it is probably why a lot of the well known people are leaving the server because they get fed up with it. Situations will keep getting ruined too unless admins come down harder with the ban hammer. 9 times out of 10 when I am in an admin situation I never feel fully satisfied because people get away with verbal warnings meaning they will only repeat offend.

You are right though Prepper because at the moment the whole server is associated with cops vs criminals. That is pretty much what PERP is based around though and I don't think you will be able to change that unless you join a more PassiveRP server.

I am pretty sure something has been mentioned before about a rule being made where only residential buildings can be raided unless you have enough evidence to back up that the commercial property has criminal activity going on and therefore you can raid that building.

You have to be a very particular type of person in order to be able to pull off passive roleplay.
Loads of people attempt it and start off really well (*cough* PNN *cough*) but it quickly goes to shit because people get bored.

The simple fact is that PERP is essentially cops and robbers. There's very little room for anything else. However, having said that there is some capacity for decent, realistic passive roleplay and it can be done but lots of people find it difficult because it can be boring and it's not a high yield activity like growing.

When it is done though, passive roleplay can be really fun to do and even fun to watch, but like I said, it is very difficult to get started and even more difficult to sustain.

Off topic slightly:
Why do we call realistic roleplay "passive roleplay"? PH's definition of passive roleplay isn't passive at all, truly passive roleplay would be completely impossible as it would basically involve being a vegetable.

I also love PassiveRP but usually when I try to (e.g. Photo studio or airplane model shop), people just ignore it. I'm really disappointed.

I made a porno set and filmed it and hired through adverts then they got paid 20000 for an hour

When I first joined perp, I knew nothing about it. I was really used to the passive RP of Clockwork, and I never used voicechat. I tended to buy subs houses from time to time and just live there, and I surprisingly never got raided. (6 months ago)

I'm still a big fan of passive RP, as that is what I first experienced when it comes to Gmod RP. In my earlier days I were a weapon salesman who delivered guns and bobbies to people in my white ford transit, meeting all kinds of people, and I were simply going under the name "Hudson", and I had fun making up my character as the silent, smoking guy he isn't today. (As I'm using voicechat now.)
Now that I've been playing on the server for a long time, I'm not so used to the passive RP as I used to be, but I'm still always open for it. My organisation is mostly based on roleplaying, as a security company rarely raids people :P

I remember stumbling across you watching a documentary about the KKK when you were an old man. I like your passive roleplaying style being an old man, it's very unique.

Passive rp revolves around what your character does this can vary from doing paperwork to cleaning your gun you can do what your character would do in his spare time. The limits is what your character is limited to doing so you can do what he will do in his spare time but not something he cant or refuses to do at the time.

The problem I see with it, is that people tend to prey on the PassiveRP'ers
Usually passiverp'ers are unarmed (they are passiveRP'ing for christ sake)
And basically there is currently very little options within the server to actually make a decent salary while passiveRP'ing
Me myself see a few options as to how to combat the constant criminalRP (NOTE: these are only short-term solutions)
1. Increasing material prices would also in turn make it more expensive to grow drugs and also raid, thus the monetary loss of losing a raid would perhaps make people reconsider raiding as it may be cause the player to lose more money upon dying
2. Decrease the sellprice of drugs. Perhaps this in conjunction with suggestion one, will decrease the gain upon losing a raid and the potential loss also outweigh the potential benefits
3. Make passiveRP viable, perhaps either by adding things to do as a passiveRP'er that makes a decent amount of money (or at the extreme, set rules in place to prevent people from interfering with passiveRP)
