What’s the big idea:

Generally speaking becoming a Tactical Firearms Officer requires an intense knowledge and attention to detail, a skill only acquired through experience, trial and error. For many officers over the past 7 years of the existence of TFU as a division, unfortunately, this trial and error is attained solely through practical assessment, resulting in failure. Officers are meticulously working tirelessly at bettering themselves to join, but the only available opportunity of real TFU experience is by reaching the practical stage, a task we understand is challenging for many.

With this fact, alongside upcoming changes, we will now be offering Tactical Firearms Open day sessions for all applicable officers who have attained the requirements to apply for the role. This is to ensure that you have had genuine experience with the unique tactical equipment & the methods of equipment usage unavailable to anyone not in the Tactical Firearms Unit.

Note that this is a trial, We may make changes to both the sessions, their frequency, and how often they are conducted.

How to join a session:
Simply apply on the careers page once applications open!

How these sessions will work:

Officers who meet TFU Requirements can apply on the careers page on PLPD.online.
Upon your registration of interest being passed, we will put you in on a schedule to attend a session. These will be conducted in the training area. Meet in the city hall library and head onto the PERPHeads teamspeak roughly 15 minutes before a session is set to start.

Please note:
  • Officers will not be allowed to enter a session more than once in a 3 month period as a trainee.
  • All of these sessions will be the same, so don’t worry about the above point.
  • Tactical Firearms Officers may be invited to attend as training assistants.

What will we be doing during these sessions?

You will be taught:
  • Explosives training: the basic stun grenade deployment course TFOs are assessed on, including synchronised breach, and diverted entry. Using breaching charges on doors and explosives.
  • Firearms training: You will be taught how to use firearms and attachments to a Tactical Firearms standard.
  • The basics of SWAT van driving.

Finally, when the whole group has completed each workshop, you will band together to execute a search warrant on a small Suburbs house. You will be put inside the Slums building and briefed on the situation. You will then plan your approach, tactics, entry strategies and other important details.

Session rules:

1: General Conduct:
  • Listen to instructors at all times.
  • Treat everyone in the session with respect.
  • Follow all instructions given.
  • Rank structure does not apply amongst trainees and all will be treated as equals.
  • Treat the session seriously.

2: Equipment Rules:
  • Do not point weapons around at fellow applicants, assessors, etc. Unless the trainer declares that the scene is live, or otherwise authorises you to.
  • Do not fire any weapon until your trainer has authorised you to do so. If they request you stop, you stop shooting and put the gun back in your inventory.
The above rules also apply for all weapons, Including tasers, stun grenades and breaching charges.
  • No taking vehicles without being authorised to.

3: Misc. Rules and information:
  • You may leave at any time. You may reschedule if your session is cut short.
  • Failing to attend your group's timeslot can result in you being rescheduled, however repeatedly failing to turn up without a good reason will result in you being taken off of the roster. Such an event will not affect any future Tactical Firearms Officer applications.

Misbehaviour during these sessions may result in a blacklist from applying for TFU at the discretion of TFU Command. Ruining the fun and experience for everyone else is a terrible thing to do, and nobody will find you funny.

Other notes:
  • These sessions will take second-level priority in training area reservation, and will be planned with a much further out timeframe than practical assessments. Expect a fair wait time. This is to not inconvenience, hinder or otherwise impede the functionality of PLPD recruitment assessments.
  • As such, These sessions will be something you may have to clear your schedule ahead of time for.
  • If you fail to respond to the inbox regarding your group, you may be replaced in that group. Please respond to the inbox in a reasonable timeframe.
  • Again, as a second priority, nonessential session, your session may be rescheduled, postponed, or delayed at discretion of TFU Command depending on Trainer availability and other factors beyond our control.
  • Officers who attend one session as a trainee will not be allowed to attend another session for 3 months.
