So i recently changed the glowplugs on my Audi A5 3.0tdi ccwa, i also added a downpipe instead of dpf. As the car had this when i bought it but had to change back due to a fail in a road adminstration test. Now whenever i am under 1000rpm the glow lamp is blinking and the exhaust gets very quiet and just gives alot of turbo flutter, this disappeared after 2 days so i tought it was nothing special just a loose sensor as the check engine light is on also but now it is back, i have to writen out fault codes yet

Any clues? I tought it might be due to it being several negative degrees outside but this happens even when the engine is at optimal tempreture. I did not see any of this after testing the car when glowplugs were changed. And yes the car is tuned for a downpipe.
 
Assuming since downpipe was installed it's not been mapped?
Long story short, it has a map, i took out downpipe and realised it was damaged and sold it cheap, and drove with a dpf with downpipe map for awhile and now ive gotten a downpipe, so map shouldnt be an issue since i ran with a downpipe before with 0 problems
 
if you did a DPF delete i would imagine it changes the way the emissions are read by the computer so it's possible it'd need to be remapped, or if you try unplugging the battery overnight so it can do a relearn perhaps

I'm not an expert on diesels though i am a petrol guzzler

Just warning you in advance, this could mean the turbo is defective and needs replacement if you are unlucky.
I am NOT a mechanic but like to put my hands on cars every now and then.

- Start off checking if the sensors are all connected and working. (Exhaust and turbo sensors)
- Check for any oil leaks.
- Check for hoses that are loose or not connected at all.
- Check if the turbo wiggles excessively.
- You might need to take the turbo out to inspect it further, check for oil, debris, move the parts around, etc.

I am not familiar with European cars other than the ones using Asian parts, German cars are known to be a bitch to repair yourself. I'd highly recommend taking it to a service station as this issue may result in a pretty expensive fix if you fuck something up.

Googling the OBD code also has a lot of solutions including ones listed above. This is a shitty issue that can be hard to fix, good luck though! I believe!
 
Sounds like it is nout to do with glow plugs, or a MAF sensor :facepalm:.

Do basic checks like said above, you also do not need to remove a turbo to inspect it, check the spindle for excess play by removing the intake pipe to it.

If are sure the turbo is in good health I'd start checking boosts lines and vacuums lines.

But the beat advice anyone online can give you is - take it to a garage, unless you know what you are doing yourself. Doesn't sound like a quick fix whatever it is judging by the cars situation with a remap...

Ive done most work on this car myself, and should be okay as this is a minor job compared to previous stuff ive done. Gonna check censors vaccums and stuff like that and if it still is happening i will check for any visible damage on the turbo spindle, if not i will probably take it to a shop
 
Good old vag, id be looking for a split vacuum line for vac tank (if its still has one) - n75 (turbo pressure valve) - turbo

You will find a vacuum diagram online.

Retrace areas you were in, lines you removed/moved and I'm almost certain you will find something loose or broken.

DPF Delete wouldn't cause turbo pressure faults and if it only occurred after work was done, its 9/10 vacuum with vags.

If vacuum is ruled out, check boost pipes, wiring to the boost valve ect.
 
Slight bit of research also shows these as common causes;

  • Faulty exhaust back pressure sensor
  • Faulty injection pressure control (IPC)
As well as the ones I mentioned to check.

Im well versed with Audi/Vag having engine swapped my 1.9 passat 3 times :laughcry:
