Had a few questions on my mind as I settle into Paralake and think I may become a long-term player, as I have been rather enjoying my stay so far and the people I have met in the last month, so if I am to stick around thought it best to be able to get some questions out of the way both for meta and in game purposes. Feel free to answer one, some, or all if you can! Also just making a proper post so I can refer to it later. (My memory is awful)

Does reporting yourself result in no/heavy reduced punishment? And does /report or f6 reports get faster response times?
I try to be very aware of the rules, especially after getting a few warnings by mistake, learning, or just plain not knowing. I feel I am familiar with most of the rules right now but I feel there are some that I can completely break accidentally. The first example that lives in my mind is if I am doing a silent raid, and someone scares the hell out of me (appearing around corner or just popping out suddenly) and I shoot them dead, but it turns out they're unarmed, will I still receive a ban if I try to get staff attention to get them revived and remedy my action? I am a very jumpy person and this has been one of my deterrents for raiding a bit as PvP rules always feel dangerous, especially if dealing with a situation where only 1 or 2 people are armed in a group and trying to not accidentally hit the unarmed people cause my recoil control sucks.

When is the last time something got added to Perpheads Help? I am thinking of proposing an addition.
I was wondering the qualifications and other requirements for something to be added to Perpheads Help and in-game guide, and if that is even something still possible? Somewhat related I have already mentally drafted part of a new guide titled along the lines of "Raiding Etiquette/Rules of Engagement (RoE)" since it seems to be a very common thing people get in trouble for, along with some of the specific rules/examples that Newer Players (such as myself at the time) can struggle with grasping just from the Rules page itself. I am aware there is already a Raiding guide, however this goes more over how to raid and what to expect and stats of different breaching tools. My idea would be much closer to the Construction Handbook with the Dos and Donts of raiding to hopefully encourage more fair and realistic playing, with the goal of minimizing toxicity and player reports.
I am sure I can still post something to the Player Guides form in general, however most New Players would not be checking the forms for such. I will likely do that either way, just want to 1. See the likelyhood of it being considered onto Perpheads Help and 2. If doing something like this would be worth the time if people think.

Is there a particular content the server seems to gravitate to?
This is a slightly vague question, but I am slowly accumulating wealth and want to do something either RP event or make some form of entertaining media to post, but am not sure what would be enjoyed best, be it a skit, documentary, or even something theatrical. Since I have only been here a little over a month I see mostly montages being posted, which is fine, they tend to be cool or funny in some way, but take my 3 ideas I had:
- Decorating an Office Complex to look properly like an Office, and doing a "The Office" parody with Perpheads players/actors.
- A Documentary/Mockumentary of a guy going around Paralake taking things too seriously and capturing the daily life of the city maybe with some Steve Irwin "Crocodile Hunter" or "Billy On The Street" bits / vibes.
- Using Hungrigies or a Warehouse to try and set up a Stage and do something like Stupid Hamlet or some other really satirical play for whatever audience shows up, also recording it and uploading it.
Which of those would probably resonate the best with the community and be popular? I may end up doing all of them because I like creative media but I want to try and hit the more popular and engaging ones with priority and detail. I have more ideas but this will give me a decent idea of where to start.

Best way to deal with toxic players?
As much fun as I have with the server, I have had already more than a handful of distasteful encounters which may not directly violate any rules. Just last night I was working on PPS and while I was delivering a package, a group of people decided to get in the back of my vehicle and some directly behind it, which with the width of the van I obviously could not see behind me. Upon backing up (I had not even ragdolled any players, just slightly pushed them before they made themselves known) I had a couple start calling me r*tard and other insults over what was really just a visibility mistake that was arguably their fault for being weird anyways. I've had several of these situations where an honest mistake is made that I want to apologize for but people just seems so aggressive and eager to try and escalate it and sometimes it really dampens the mood of my experience. Has anyone found a good way to deal with this? I don't know if there's any mute or similar options I can do, and just ignoring it and leaving is hard when they stand directly in front of my vehicle without moving.

Thank you to anyone that gives advice or answers! Really have been enjoying meeting you all and making some fun memories together. : D

I do wish I could help more, but for driving vehicles if you press control it will give you a third person view. I believe a majority of people drive in third person, because it is a lot easier and makes you more situationally aware. As much as I would love to drive in first person, with how finicky gmod driving is, it's difficult

Yeah I do in 3rd person but the Ford Transit is so thick that unless I'm angling down at a weird angle for some reason, you don"t really see the rear, and especially since I was backing up, they were hidden behind the top of the vehicle since it's tall.

In my experience, being honest, direct and owning up to your mistakes plays a part in the decision behind punishments, especially if you can demonstrate that you do actually know the rule you broke. The expectation should never be that you'll get off without punishment, but in cases like this there's always a good possibility that you'll be given some leniency. This is entirely subjective though, as massrdming and apologizing for it won't matter. You're still going to be banned for pretty much the same length as if you denied doing it, unless you're also being belligerent, in which case you'll probably get a longer punishment if not permanent.

The help page is updated fairly frequently, but mainly in response to updates, typos or information gaps. If you're trying to contribute, contacting the community managers and discussing this is your best bet. If you've written guides before and have some material they can look at to know if you'd be a good fit for the editor team, then they'll probably consider it. I've been an editor a handful of times now and one of the authors behind the content guide, which originally appeared here. If you're looking for inspiration or tips on writing good guides, looking at existing ones that are pinned or in the help page is a good place to start.

I haven't really noticed a trend with any of this, aside from the obvious shooting montages, in which my direct response was to do the opposite; post compilations of more humorous moments instead of focusing on people ragdolling after getting their cranium caved in by mr.lead. It seemed to be of interest to some, so I did that for a few years, learned a bunch of editing things along the way too.

The behavior of riling someone up into a naturally escalating conflict is as old as perp itself. The simplest and easiest way to dodge something like this is to take nothing they say seriously. Letting your ego control your responses is a quick path to misery, so don't read into what they're saying. At the end of the day their words are empty, they haven't changed how you live your life and in 99.9% of cases, they're nowhere remotely close to affect your day-to-day life. Letting their words control how you feel is incredibly silly.
I know that's probably harsh to hear, but that's the reality of things online. It takes getting used to, to properly see results, but when you adopt this mindset to belligerent individuals, life simplifies itself. Don't read into it, and don't take it personally.

i have noticed that toxicity has spread deeply within the city people throw insults like nothing now and it as you said really shits on the mood and rp experince in general its sad to see i cna barely do anything about except respond back and walk away later

Really? That's really sad to hear, I don't tend to see very much at all. I've always felt that PERP was very good compared to most other servers for its toxicity.

It tends to just be dudes that live for pvp honestly and if they can get you riled up they can shoot you should you try to punch them enough or something. I ignore them most the time but the amount of them can be exhausting, even if you dont take anything they say seriously.

And does /report or f6 reports get faster response times?
I forgot to answer this one.

Both are the same. They use the same SCAM system as you do when you're making and managing your open reports, just with about 140% more features on their side. Response time only varies based on staff actively doing reports vs staff roleplaying. Believe it or not, despite being part of the moderation team, their time on the staff team is strictly voluntary.
And besides a moderately enforced monthly report quota, staff can allocate their time on the server freely. Choosing not to do reports on a given day is entirely within their right.

Things might have changed since I was last staff, which is quite a while ago by now, so take some of what I say with a grain of salt. An actively serving mod+ can elaborate more on this better than I can in my position.

Sick, already more info than I was hoping to gain thank you. I didn't know if they were separate functions or what, I knew response time varies on their side of things I just hadn't known if one gave more urgency than another or so. Appreciate the info!

thats exactly the type of people im on about indeed other than those people obviously perp has the best community

However I am still interested in hear all of your thoughts on the content ideas. Which of those sounds the most interesting to you all?
(I don't know how to attach a poll)
