So, I’ve finally moved to my new apartment today…. Hurray the odyssey is over. Unfortunately it turns out that I either have really bad karma, Murphys law decided to show its full force, or my new apartment is cursed.
When I set my Pc up again, my monitor didn’t turn on. Tried for a couple of minutes until I smelled the familiar smell of an electrical fire. Apparently the power adapter and/or plug of the monitor were damaged somehow and it fried the entire thing. So I went and bought a new monitor, easy solution, right?
Nope. Set the new monitor up, connected it to my Pc and…. No signal found. Tried both DisplayPort and hdmi, aswell as all output plugs the pc has to offer. Nothing. Plugged my Nintendo switch into the monitor and connected it via hdmi, immediately connected without issues.
What I failed to realize for a while is, my Pc was connected to my old monitor via a mini DisplayPort cable.
Now, here’s the question: How likely is it that the current traveled through the cable from my monitor to my Pc and fried something? If so, what did it destroy and how fucked am I? Or is it more likely to be something else entirely?
The Pc turns on no problem, I just can’t get any signal on my monitor.
