I'm sure you're aware drugs have different dosing and people have different tolerances for drugs. If you can't handle a joint don't smoke a whole joint, put it out, smoke it with people, and most importantly DON'T push yourself. The argument that alcohol doesn't intoxicate you as much is so incredibly stupid. I can take one shot of vodka and throw up if I take two I'm going to be throwing up for a while, and anything past that I'm blacked out drunk. For some people, if they drink a bottle of beer they will feel it way more than a joint. Think about how dosing even works alcohol is dosed by ounces, while weed is dosed by grams-milligrams. I'm not saying that weed is 100% safe and there isn't any downside whatsoever, all I'm saying is if you can justify alcohol you can justify weed. I think the criminalization of any drug is stupid and is just a waste of resources cracking down on the market.

Ok I'll give my actual opinion on some arguments bought up here.

Cannabis VS Alcohol / caffeine / Tobacco:

The Alcohol VS Cannabis argument makes sense to some people but overall, most alcohol isn't made to actually get you drunk. Drinks like beer, wine, and spirits were made to be sipped and enjoyed with meals, in social settings, or as an end of the evening wind down to help you relax. Alcohol abuse is a major issue in our societies of course but alcohol isn't made to be abused. It's like the glue sniffing epidemic of the early 2000's in the UK, Model glue was made for making little planes, not to be huffed to a point where you can taste the weather. But alas, as is the way with human nature, if people want to get high and don't care about consequences, they'll sniff glue.

As for comparing it to caffeine, caffeine really isn't dangerous in the forms 98% of caffeine users take it. Unless you have a heart condition, you could order a mc coffee or chug about half a litre of coffee blacker than Samuel L Jacksons left nut and the worst you would probably experience is a headache or sleep problems.

Comparing it to tobacco is just about the only valid argument in this sense. People smoke to relax, unwind, and to focus, or to crave an addiction. Nicotine is comparable to heroin in terms of how addictive it is. Nicotine addicts like myself started smoking for the relaxing effect and the buzz but the addiction gets to a point where we're just smoking to feel how we did stress wise before we started smoking. Tobacco is also so much more harmful than cannabis undisputably.

Developmental issues:

Yes, its been proven smoking weed regularly at a young age can effect your brain development. Limiting cannabis to 21 years or over only would work from the law perspective, making anyone smoking it or using THC Products under that age in violation of the law. But, would it stop people from smoking weed under 21 anyways? Fuck no, If they're smoking it when its illegal and somewhat of a task to get a hold of, they'd definitely be smoking it if you can just go down to weedRus and get an ounce legally. This is a fair argument in terms of keeping it illegal.

Medical use:

A fair argument in pro legalisation, Cannabis's medical qualities are proven and plentiful, albeit, exaggerated. Here's some common "Facts" about what they can treat and my opinion on them:

Cancer (Pain management):
Undenyable, cancer patients go through a lot of pain and are mass prescribed opioid medications to manage the pain and symptoms. Maybe not give it in a smoke-able / vapable form for lung cancer, but overall, I fully support this. Cancer patients go through enough and the last thing they need is a fucking opioid addiction.

Anxiety:
Another thing THC is commonly said to treat is Anxiety disorders. As someone who's suffered from an anxiety disorder myself, I can 100% See how it'd be effective. However, Its also my strong opinion that anxiety patients being given drugs to treat the disorder should be a last resort and general emotional therapy should be attempted before just doping people up.

Cancer (Tumour management)
I don't know a lot about this one but apparently Cannabis products prevent the growth of tumours when applied in certain ways. If it works, go for it.

Epilepsy:
THC Products are used to prevent and ease seizures. I fully support this unconditionally.

Tourettes treatment:
As a tourettes sufferer myself this one hits close to home. My form of tourettes gives me random twitches of my head and neck, as well as my face, hands, and somewhere in my respiratory system causing me to "Stress cough" . I personally don't think I'd really benefit from THC Products to prevent this but at times it draws unwanted attention to myself and as a method of calming it in certain social scenarios I can see the pluses of having it as an option.

ADHD:
Hi PERPHead's local ADHD CEO Here. No. Don't give ANY Drugs to ADHD / ADD Sufferers. I was prescribed on 3 different amphetamines and an "Experimental non addictive" ADHD Drug in my childhood and sure it got me acting like a real smartypants and a high grade student, and sure my grades dropped the longer I was off of them, but for fucks sake, drugging kids with ADHD is something that disgusts me. No point in microdosing meth. I see no real ability for THC To treat ADHD rather than calming down the patient but ADHD Is something you have to overcome yourself. Will Smith, Ozzy Osbourne and other famous people are prime examples on how to overcome ADHD (Although Ozzy probably did it through destroying his vital organs with cocaine but still).

Recreational use:

Nothing wrong with a bit of cannabis every now and then. Sure people end up going overkill about it, but those people usually have addictive personalities themselves.

I am a firm believer of "My body, My choice" as well as natural selection. If people want to potentially poison themselves, then they have the liberty to do so in my eyes. THC isn't really what I'd call a toxin however. On the other hand, I live in Britain, which has completely free essential healthcare. Anyone doing something stupid to themselves is at the expense of the tax payer. The only real danger from cannabis against a healthy adult is less inhibition which could lead to them doing stupid shit, an issue we already have with other legal narcotics.

A key thought is the general responsibility skills of someone who regularly consumes cannabis and if it were made legal, how would they react and how would it affect their lives?

Slowed down productivity amongst Teens was an immediate effect of cannabis legalisation in colorado when it was made available to anyone over 21.

Current weed status in the UK:
Generally, weed sold on the streets or on the doorstep by drug dealers is seedy, dried up shit. The police refer to this as just cannabis. What they refer to as "Skunk", however, is basically just good quality cannabis. People call it Skunk because it has a strong smell (Like its supposed to) Whilst the common shit has a less distinct and pungent aroma due to it being shit. Common weed wouldn't be fresh either, it could be years old and dried and preserved in plastic. Skunk is just typically fresh, well made cannabis, hence why it gets its name.

Weed dealers would in the past lace their cannabis with the infamous legal high Spice, also known as K2, Black Mamba, Clockwork orange, etc. This leads to especially young people with little knowledge on weed smoking dangerous chemicals and getting addicted. K2, spice and all its derivatives are now completely illegal thanks to the blanket ban on psychoactive substances.

Due to recent technological advancements, and the legality of cannabis seeds however, more dealers are growing "Skunk" and are actually able to sell decent quality shit for a decent price. However, remember these people are criminals, and as such, there's no guarantee that what you're buying is legal.
My final thoughts:

People who want to smoke weed usually will end up doing so, since its not that hard to find in urban and rural area's. On top of this, the relatively low cost of incognito weed growing equipment and seeds being perfectly legal are 2 key flaws in the legal system in regards to cannabis use.

In my opinion, Cannabis should definitely have the following legal status in the UK:
Should be perfectly legal to grow it yourself for personal consumption on private property on the grounds that you aren't making money off of it or living in a property, like a flat, where other people could be affected by your weed smoking.
Should be legal to possess up to half an ounce, or 1 plant, on private property.
Dealing it should be illegal. Drug dealers should also receive harsher punishments if they're cutting their product with spice or other harmful chemicals.
Possession in a public place with intentions of personal use should not lead to any sort of criminal charges, cautions, etc.
Use of cannabis in a public place should result in a "Cannabis caution" or a small fine (As it currently is)
Dealing to a minor (under 18) Should constitute as child neglect.

I wouldn't mind seeing it however that it is also sold by licensed shops specializing in cannabis products. In the event of this however, a government agency for testing of products to verify if they're of good quality and pose minimal risks to the public should be established, composed of ex police officers who specialised in narcotics detection and people with university degrees in medical science, herbology / botany, and other scientific fields involving chemicals and their effects on biological life.

Tl;Dr: Definitely for medical use, which is already is where I live, and recreational use should maybe be legal, but definitely decriminalized.

My neighbor started using oxycontin because he broke into his dad's cabinet one night and his dad didn't notice the missing pills. I know one kid who sneaks into his moms medicine cabinet. Kids will always be dumb and some will want to try drugs. If you want to actually see how addicting drugs can actually look at Xanax.

It's fucking cringe bro and I've seen how it's fucking ruined lives of people I personally know, so fuck off man I'm fucking entitled to give weed a fucking taboo you fucking cunt.

I would say don’t legalise and this is coming from my perspective which has a decent amount of knowledge in the business.

I’ve seen people smoke bud for time and it honestly has fucked up some of the people I know my making them completely different and go off the rails to lazy and just unorganised.

Dealers don’t force drugs upon customers and it doesn’t ruin lives this way, dealers would force a cheaper products on addicts instead of something expensive like weed.

Weed is a drug and it does harm people, it’s fucking expensive as fuck, does fuck all to you unless you smoke allot.

Only benefit is it tastes nice.

This picture is the same as saying "All black people are criminals". It's a stereotype that isn't true at all... I smoke weed basically everyday, especially now, and I've never had any issues. I get my school done, I get my work done, because of weed I got inspiration to make music and look where it got me, I am about to make big moves all because of stoned me wanting to make a song once.

Read my reply, I eleborate.

my friend buys weed from a year 9 every time we go skating and it always ends up being like 95% tobacco 5% weed because he buys them prerolled, he doesnt know how to roll them, he also has asthma so it probably isnt the best thing to do. i say it would be more appropriate if only a certain age can access legal weed. (i havent smoked before and dont want to smoke in the future)

Alright, some of these replies trigger me and it shows 60% of you have never smoked weed in your life. Let me make it clear that if you have never tried weed or anything basically, your opinion is invalid. To give your opinion about something you must experience it and experience it multiple times. The first time is always uncomfortable, any drug.

I am Dutch, have had a lot of weed experience, and many people think weed is legal here but in reality it actually isn't. It's decriminalized, not legal. It is still against the law to have more than 5g on your person and more than 30g in a residence. You need to get a lot of paperwork done if you want to open a coffeeshop and even then, you can only carry 500g which is not a lot, which explains why most Top 10 coffeeshops are sold out before 6PM.

So, in my opinion weed should definitely be completely legalised, this is good for the economy because the government can put heavy tax on it like they do with alcohol and tobacco, it will also open up a lot more jobs because someone has to watch the plants. In my opinion this would be a great opportunity for people that can't get a job because of past life experiences, homeless people, immigrants, you can name an entire list. If it is made legal it has to be enforced by law to make sure no one abuses it, you know, their job, keeping the people safe. I've had this conversation a lot and I once came to the conclusion of registering people that buy weed so the government knows exactly how much you bought thus how much you probably smoke. They could check on you if you buy a lot and make sure you are not ruining your life. Won't ever happen though, too much effort for the government. World is about money.

Weed is just the general name for the plant, there are so many different kinds of weed with different effects, and yes, some of these will make you go bad but that is a risk you are taking when trying any drug. I've gone bad on weed twice, one time it was mixed with spice and the other time it was just not the weed for me. There is literally a strain for everyone, even if it is a CBD strain, if it works for you, it works. Then we have Sativa and Indica, head high and body high. If you did weed once and went bad on it, there is defnitely one out there for you. (Only smoke if you are of age and it is legal in your country, please don't be stupid, don't drive, don't do anything you normally wouldn't do, etc, etc.)

Next chapter, people saying they've seen other people their lives ruined because of weed and they then state that everyone using weed is, as seen in this thread, unhygienic, dumb, criminals, etc etc etc. Yeah some people become extremely 'addicted' and will ruin their lives but you know what, I smoke weed basically everyday since I was 18, I waited until I was legal, and I am doing just fucking fine. My family supports my choice, I go to school about to get my degrees, I have a job where I am known as the 'King of Speed', kinda cringe I know but I am just fast. I've also struggled with mental health issues before smoking weed and right now, they are significantly lower than before. They are still here but I just don't worry about it that much anymore.

If people started at a young age this usually means they either want to be cool or they have parents that are bad at being parents. I smoke weed, I will continue smoking weed until I don't but I will NEVER allow my future children to smoke weed before they are of age. NEVER. If I find out they have been smoking weed, and I know all the smells and techniques to hide it, I will give them an ass whooping. Learn your kids to have discipline. Learn your kids to control their actions.

Lets move on to people that say weed is bad stop smoking weed but they drink a fuck ton of alcohol. Fuck you, shut the fuck up retard. The only reason alcohol is legal is because it is too late to revert it, if we invented alcoholic beverages today it would be made illegal for recreational use. It is dangerous and stupid to drink.

Weed is literally one of the safest drug on planet earth, it is organic so it is also vegan, you cannot overdose on it unless you manage to smoke 1500 pounds in 15 minutes and it is rare to go bad on it, it helps with sleep, it helps with appetite, it helps your mood, etc. So why not make it legal? Wouldn't it make sure people don't try other drugs because they are just as easy to get from the same dealer? The dealer is going to try to sell you anything he has, one day you will be like Ahhhh fuck it right! and get addicted to pills, bad route to go with. Now pills, THAT is a drug that ruins people. It changes your appearance, your brain, your body, EVERYTHING. Pills and any drugs above it will RUIN your life, not weed.

Yeah, it's not healthy to smoke weed because it doesn't fill your lungs with oxygen but if you are going to do drugs, please just stick to weed. I've gone a bit over the top in this thread but I felt like it had to be said.

I'm going to reply to some other replies which I disagree with.
@Scatman John
One is knew because now he has extreme paranoia, BPD and schizophrenia due to high levels of drug usage since the age of 16, starting with weed of many calibres of strengths.
Where the fuck are his parents? He is 16 and he gets away with using drugs... Bad parenting, every parent should check on their kids as I mentioned. I also believe every parent should research drugs just in case their children end up using it so they can stop it early. This will prevent a lot of addictions in the future.
Furthermore, he was also charged for driving under the influence of a restricted substance at the age of nineteen but found not guilty. He had taken some dodgy pill from the dark web on a night out and unknowingly smacked his head. Obvious to all this, he fell unconscious at the wheel and binned his car into a bush.
Self control, if you have done drugs, don't drive. Especially pills. No disrespect to you or him but this just sounds like he is a bit stupid.
How come we get those fucking retard spaces out dudes who insist everyone should smoke it and its safe when they're wearing shorts in the middle of winter, not washed for days and have shit hair...
These are the people that grew up without parent figures or bad parent figures. They started smoking early and now they are like this because their body developed into that due to their brain not being fully grown when they started. Notice how most of these guys have dreads the length of their entire body and are also very young? They grew that hair when they were 15, now they are 21 and their brain couldn't develop properly so the result is someone that isn't very smart. And stop with those stupid stereotypes, honestly.
Honest question, have you ever smoked weed? How many times?

@Duffy
If you need your weed to relax, then buddy you've got an addiction.
We've had this conversation before but I am going to mention it again. If you use weed to relax you probably just want to clear out your mind for a while. It is impossible for me to relax if the same thing keeps popping up in my mind, I smoke a bit of weed and I just forget about those non important worries. Like I mentioned, it is about self control. Personally I write down all my important worries, that's my self control for that.

@Creepis
Like any drug this can be severely abused and over-consumed, for fun or because of depression replacing actual help or therapy which I don't feel is correct.
Yes, it can be over-consumed but you won't overdose, which you probably already know. You'll just have to dose it correctly and if you don't, bad self control, quit ASAP.
I've had and probably still do have depression but smoking weed has definitely helped me. I also had extreme anxiety so I didn't have the balls to go to therapy because I was afraid the therapist would judge me. I believe that if you really don't want to go to a therapist because you are scared of talking, you should try smoking weed but telling for example, your best friend, someone you trust so they can stop it if it goes wrong.

@Zayne
Weed being illegal is what makes it appealing to youth. Legalising it will promote alternative, more dangerous drugs.
Yes and no.
Yes, it won't be 'cool' anymore because everyone does it and it's legal.
No, look at the Netherlands, pills, cocaine etc are super easy to get here because our borders suck dick yet most underage people that do drugs, smoke weed. It has been 'legal' here for years and to them it is still 'cool' enough to smoke weed.

Now a message to all you UK people that say ur friends got addicted, you guys put tobacco in it, yeah ofc they are addicted. The combination is deadly if we are talking addictions. Weed is meant to be smoked pure, not with tobacco.

If you read the entire thing, thank you. I believe it is extremely stupid to think weed is bad just off of 1 experience or seeing people have a bad time. Drugs are not made for everyone, if you feel like you are not ready to do a drug, don't do it. You need to talk to yourself and check if you are really ready to do this.

If you have any questions, please do comment. There are so many positives in drugs, media and people that haven't used only show the negatives. I'm not saying do drugs, but don't tell other people they are extremely bad because with the right amount of dosage it can be really helpful.
