Hi,

Yesterday after the badmin we spoke about ways to improve game play for newer players. A few good suggestions were brought up, even @Bolli contributed!

My plan is after this org update... to focus on the experience of new players.

If you have any ideas how to improve gameplay of new players, reply! It would also be good if a few new community members relied with their input and told us what they are missing ingame.

As always, shit posts will be removed...

Topics that are out of scope,
- PD Whitelist remove (unless a new player got something to say)
- Reverting drug system
- Giving everyone physguns

Maybe a sort of popup that appears on the side of the screen that outlines controls/features/functions/howto, and would easily be dismissable via a function key?

Maybe place it in the same place the Mayoral Ballot appears, have it slide into frame, and have the box of info explain the purpose, feature, or controls (for example: driving) in that box. Then once they are done reading it, they just press like F9 to get rid of it.

I like the idea of a tutorial.
Have an NPC outside of the city hall new players can talk to to get a mission (or several) which would be aimed to teach the player a few basic things like how to use the map or phone in general, how to grow drugs, how to get a job etc. The missions shouldn't be very plain and objective like to make them boring. Instead of just that npc, there could be more around depending on the mission. I'll uh, extend more in the idea later.

I do like this. I do remember on the latest update log that Samuel mentioned something about missions, so if we are lucky, they will involve NPCs. The thing is, I think that some things may have to be kept to the popup (for example, controls, in a list of movements, inventory, using the phone, etcetera) and some others (like the ones you mentioned) be kept to NPCs.

People don't play this game because of the features, they play it because of the community (regardless of how toxic it is). Integration is how you get people into the game, try to make it so that bringing new players into your organisation is worth something (XP). I played PERP because I liked playing with certain people, I didn't really care for half of the community, only the ones that I knew.

You manage to get people playing together then they'll stay because PERPHeads will be the game that they play together.

It's not about getting people to login for the first hour, it's about retaining them after the first session. Once a player logs in a second time they become somewhat invested.

Ok, when I first joined the server I was initially brought in by the swat system, it even single-handedly got me to purchase VIP. The PD roll back is necessary but if not I'd be happy to have the old vip for swat system.

I proposed reverting the drug update pretty soon after it was released and was labelled as "selfish" and that I "didn't respect the work". The writing was on the wall, making a drug system like the one we have only encourages you sitting in your apartment and powergrowing else you risk drowning your plants or letting them overgrow (the later may have been addressed already).

Physgun is probably the only reason I currently buy VIP (used to anyway lmao) so I think giving it away will limit the servers income and that will lead to development, once again being halted.

If they havent touched the drug system again the basic planters should no longer need water. Make them like the old big drug pots where you can place down 4 of the basic ones max, 5 plants (10 weed 10 coke) max per basic planter which count for 1 big pot that gives 38-46 product and seeds just like the old system. Advanced planters should remain as they are.

What brought me into the game was how advanced it is making me grind for stuff as a sweater I loved that growing defending my base getting raided. When I first joined it took me 7 days gametime to get a Audi R8 and then I was looking for my next achievement, but I was lucky that I made @Stevo-A like me for when I shot a cop for him with my m9 and he let me grow with him until I met @glacial and them I hanged around with him..... he bought me vip and I loved him<3. I feel like the pd being as in depth as it is today is great being able to work your way up The ranks just helps people not get bored especially new players who may not have friends

When I first played seriously, is when I had people to play with. Like when I started off, a range of different people helped me as I knew them from other communities. These peoples offered me protection until I had the hang of it and to be fair, without people like them I probably wouldn't play today. I still remember to this day my first time seriously playing, hiding in a bazaar shop with like 4 people growing in the back of bazzar

Recently I have seen @Jamal @ICEKILLER_99 inviting sweaters into their org and giving them weapons ect to help them start off which makes newer players stay on the server, so good work guys :)

What's wrong with the drug system exactly? I personally like it, it's a little more in-depth, requires at the very least some minimal amount of attention and knowledge and isn't completely automatic as it was before. I think it's great. Making drugs shouldn't be overly easy even if you're not at the risk of getting raided.

Giving people physguns would be excellent, however, it would make me slightly worried about the server's economy. (donations)

Problem is, for new players its actually pretty complicated. Especially for players without any friends that can show them how growing drugs work

Not sure if this is a valid discussion since you said not to talk about reverting drug system, but would it be possible to remove water levels? They serve no purpose. Older players already know the right levels and never change them after however new players might not even notice them and lose their first batch causing them to rage quit. Other than that I agree with Obidan, I enjoy a more interactive drug system.

New players would be greeted with a pop up offering them access to these videos. You could also have messages in chat that auto spam.

On the topic of messages that auto spam, could we please have the forum and team speak help messages back on the server as they help bring in more players to the community causing them to stick around.

Remove dumb game mechanics that outweigh complexity for fun, I come on the server and my car either has no tyres or won't start so I alt F4.

I disagree with car damage being a complex mechanic at all, especially since bullet damage is fixed with a few wrenches and getting Tires replaced costs 1k. Plus, it is an entirely necessary feature to the game mode to have your cars damaged.

Not really an idea but, I wouldn't mind coming back to the server and actively play again just to help people getting started with either drugs or a job, I'm super patient so even though there might be people joining just to fuck around I won't really care, I'll take my time.

You could give a bunch of dedicated members a sort of Rank to show off that they're the first person new players should approach, or some sort of Report system that tells a person needs help with getting started.

As far as im aware off, there used to be a helper role, i believe before i even joined server and became a part of perpheads. It might be useful, but there mustve been a reason it was removed.

i like the idea of some sort of guided gameplay/tutorial popup which you are rewarded for, appears in the top right of the screen;

Say hello to a player (0/1)

Yell something using /y (0/1)

Obtain plant pots (0/6)

Obtain cannabis seeds (0/6)
$2,000

Plant drug seeds (0/6)

I could sit here and list these all day, there could also be different paths such as;
Select Illegal example Route --> Obtain plant pots, etc
Select Legal example Route --> Obtain fishing gear
Select other example route --> Obtain cash register and sell 6 items


** See APB Reloaded tutorial system or msg me if you are interested in implementing this as I can provide some nice ideas

This system in my opinion, would make a huge difference to how to server would welcome new players but in a good way. Also I believe there should be a rule for targeting new players ( i know there is already one) but more enforced for example, If a new player feels like they are getting ganged up on, they can make a report about it.

and if a player tries to crowbar the door of a new player a confirmation message should pop up saying this is a player with under 12h gametime, are you sure you wish to continue?

Give new players some more free shit in there storage like few boxes of pistol ammo, a chair, a table, a bed, a radio, 5 bandages, 5 stimpacks, a crafting bench, 2 phones, 3 fishing rods, 2 fences, and about 20 of each crafting material.

Firstly the first thing you should do is simply remove the PD to what it was before the whitelist, where some players have a supervisor rank and such, give these players the possibility to issue warrants, that's the best way to sort this out, the PD at the moment is too big and has way too much influence on the server for no apparent reason. Any new player that joins the server who wants to actually get going and wishes to be a police officer are faced with an application phase, now sure enough for us who have been playing the server for a longer time know that this isn't that big of a deal, however as a new player if you join any new server and wish to become a police officer and realise you're greeted with stuff that you have to do before you become a police officer, it's an instant turn-off, thus doing this will be the best option.

Reverting the drug system is something that I do not agree to, the drug system however needs to have some sort of tutorial to it where players understand what they have to do to start growing illegal substances on the server, if someone new joins they have to ask people via the help chat which... literally no one uses anymore and if it does get used people don't even respond with anything serious and meme the player who is asking these questions and believe it or not these players who do this do not get punished in anyway but at max a slap on the wrist.

I did not agree to giving everyone a physgun at first however when you think about it, it's the only sensible thing you can do, there's really nothing you can do on the server without a physgun and it is something that is necessary.

I would also like to add something (firstly @nutrient10 this is nothing against you as a staff member but what the staff team has become) we need the staff team to start dealing with the general toxicity on the server and for the staff team to actually sort out the people who are being generally dumb in OOC use racist slurs within the shoutbox, OOC and the adverts on the server. Here we have some simple examples

Then some stupid adverts that were made earlier such as
Now these users only got spoken to and/or given an OOC timeout.
When I was a staff member I never allowed any of this nor did anyone else allow this, the staff team has become too lenient on this behaviour and allow it to slip through without any sort of serious punishment, which just makes them do it again, now if you're gonna go ahead and say that "oh nigga isn't racist" it really doesn't matter, because people are using it in a disrespectful way nor is it any way to speak.

I agree on staff should be a bit more with in whats being said ooc, im sure some people can confirm that aswell. About what Firuz said, i did actually comment on that aswell to him, it wasnt a punishment though, but was an indication it was a bit too much. Looking back at it i should maybe have asked for it to be removed and I apologise about that.

Well i'm helping sweaters with their start for a while (you dont have to be in the org to get help from me as there is a max of 3 sweaters allowed at once)

I like @Alyt idea of having small quests that are simple and help players start, probably the best idea that i've seen in a while. May be give them a physgun at the very last quest for may be a day or two just to allow them to set up defenses and grow 75k worth of drugs so then they can buy premium

There was a time I was cop, and couple sweaters who based kept getting raided and they didn't have defences, so I went out of my way to build them some and they got raided again and actually won.
