First things first, I already know I'll probably get a large amount of hate from the player base for making this post, but I just want to start a discussion with people about the my incident and the entire thing of being permanently banned on perpheads. In no way is this post going to be an excuse for my behavior but rather comparing cheating on here to esports and other games.
First off, I can see why cheaters are banned forever on perp. GMODs anti cheat hasn't been updated since release, if you know how VAC works, it compares cheats to ones they have on their database and bans people with programs that are running that code or similar, but this is a problem when the database has never been updated since release, this means servers have to take action into their own hands and either make or use publicly available anticheat. However these are never amazing and people slip through all the time which makes the act of finding cheaters by hand very labor intensive as you have to have staff hand review demos etc to convict someone. So I can understand the zero tolerance policy behind it seeing as it can be hard to detect people. If they did it once, they'll do it again right? Well, no.
A number of e-sports will often allow players that have been caught cheating to come back to play, these players go away and reform themselves and eventually return, for CSGO this is the case with Emilio and KQLY. While they cannot go to Valve sponsored events, they can still compete in ESEA and FACEIT the two largest providers of matchmaking for CSGO, they only have a 2 year ban for cheaters. I understand this is different for perp as their anticheats are incredible, but why can bans for cheaters on perp not be a similar time frame or timed at all? These people reach the highest tier of play for their respective game and are given another chance to prove themselves.
I'm not saying a blanket unban or release dates for everyone, just for cases to be reviewed individually. I am going to use me and Shokron as an example. We are both older players who made a stupid mistake, I wont go into different reasoning or anything, but we have gone away and reformed ourselves, we are willing to let staff/players review our demos as well as wiping our ingame accounts. I just find it hard to understand how pro players for certain games are eventually allowed back to their sports, but people who are genuinely reforming and attempting to come back and be a positive influence for the server are not even given a chance to prove themselves.
In conclusion, I just want to hear from different members of the community as to why they think I and various others do not deserve to come back to the game, despite trying to positively improve ourselves.
