Why are people banned forever?

Cheaters are despised in every shape of form. Whether you cheat in Exams, sport, board games or in E-Sports, you are disqualified because you show you can't follow the rules of that game.

These people should never be given second chances, there's never 'accidental' cheats or that you had a bad day and slipped up on some rules.

I remember exposing one of the first few cheaters on Paradox forums a few days after HOI4 came out in June 2016. He's still banned today and rightfully so.

The issue is, if you start unbanning cheaters, the idea of cheating is somewhat more applicable as getting banned seems less harsh if you can appeal it.

Having perma-permabans is one of those things that will keep people from cheating most of the time.

Think about it like this, if your partner cheats on you, you shouldn't give them a second chance no matter how much they mope and cry, if you do all you're doing is setting yourself up to be cucked again.

It's not as if your ban or Shokron's bans were the first time where this policy was taken. It has always been the policy that if you cheated you were never allowed back. You cannot use the excuse you didn't know what the policy was going to be. You knew the risks, you decided to ruin people's fun. I refuse to believe you would've suddenly stopped using the hacks if you had not been caught. I was playing with you at the time and you always knew where people were basing when I think about it in hindsight. You do not deserve an unban and neither does any cheater. You are owed nothing. You are not sorry you cheated. You are sorry you got caught.

I'll speak for the staff. I would like to be on both sides for this. I will give some useful tips at the end if you're serious.

They don't want to unban you because then us players will have the mentality of "I'll just cheat and wait out the 2 year unban lol."
Look at the massrdm bans 6months @Taylor obv did it cus he knew he'd be unbanned and can wait out 6months like its nothing.

So it can only mean "ill just massrdm and get a 6month ban lmao, ill go play something else mean while."

Cheating does ruin a lot of people's time as well for staff.

------------------------------

Now from a players prospective.

Yes. Waiting out 1year and more could show some reformity. It is ridiculous to wait out a certain amount of years with no chance at being unbanned from your favorite server.

I also feel staff do hold grudges for no reason. It's a game grow up.

IMO i dont think u guys aren't trying hard enough to get unbanned.

Some tips i reccomend is: helping out on the forums, be active in the shoutbox, show a positive attitude towards posts as well as to everyone.
Some things u can try is: talk to every staff member and prove to them that you're reformed and have changed for the better. ex: be friends with them.

TL;DR: staff dont want us to think cheating bans will be pardoned; waiting out a cheating ban is tedious.

Martino is permanently banned due to his attitude two years ago.

Ban evaders have been unbanned since then.

RDMers only get banned for 6 months.

Staff aren't biased at all.

an account reset and demo check weekly once unbanned is all I can think of after speaking to fellow buddy @Shokron13, of course most staff don’t want to check demos all week.
Why should staff do this every week? watching through multiple demos, it is not our fault the cheater cheated.
Quick math: A player plays 6 hours a week, for example, let's say we unban 11 players who were banned for cheating and are in need of a demo check every single week.
6 hours * 11 = 66 hours to be watched by a staff member, not to forgot most of the staff members do have a fulltime job or go to school.

I'd like to do what some other video game once did to people that had cheated.
Give them a chance if they 1. Upload a public apology video and 2. volunteer to do ~30 hours of community service (With proof that it has been done, obviously). That would show they're actually committed and willing to improve, while ensuring that their misdeeds aren't going entirely unpunished.
